The South West Summer 7s went off with a bang this weekend, with Senior teams heading down to Margaret River for their chance at 7s glory.

Over 20 teams took to the field at Gloucester Park on Saturday for the second year of the South West Summer 7s, the only Seniors-exclusive Rugby 7s tournament on the West Coast 7s Series calendar.

Featuring Open Men’s, Open Women’s and Social Men’s grades, over 280 participants were part of the tournament, it was an epic day of Rugby at the home of the Margaret River Gropers.

In the Open Men’s, it was a showdown between some of the best sides in the game. With Wanneroo fielding a side of young Colts, they came up against strong sides in the WestOz Nomads, the 2024 Open Men’s victors, Southern Lions, and the 2025 Championship Grade winners, Rockingham.

Running rampant, the WestOz Nomads dominated the competition, going through the day undefeated. They came up against tough competition from the Rocky All Stars in the Grand Final, but ultimately walked away back-to-back Champions, with a 40-5 win. Tries in the Final were scored by Peni Naqau, Saimoni Qaranivalu (2), Vilive Sawalu, Edward Turagava and Meli Naborisi, with five conversions also scored Naqau, Qaranivalu (2), Turagava and Kavekini Cakaunitabua. One try for Rockingham was scored by Luke Matanisiga.

It was a five-way competition in the Open Women’s grade, with teams from UWA, Southern Lions, Wanneroo, Cottesloe and Palmyra all making the trip down to Margaret River. With the Cottesloe Shegulls the reigning Premiers, it was tough competition across the board.

After a tough day of close calls and big match ups, the Wanneroo Divaz came out victorious, with an unbeaten streak adding yet another piece of silverware to their cabinet.

Teams were featured from Margaret River Gropers, Cottesloe, Mandurah, North Coast, Perth Bayswater, Rockingham, Southern Lions, Kalamunda and UWA, in an epic afternoon of Rugby.

After a huge performance, Mandurah Bombs came out with the title, defeating Rocky Super, 35-7. Tries for the side were scored by Benjamin Alary, Fletcher Saunders (2), Timoci Navuki and Shaun de Lange, with all five tries converted. Asiah Gray scored one try and converted for Rockingham.
