ANZAC Round delivered a powerful weekend of rugby across the Men’s Fortescue Premier Grade, combining strong on-field performances with meaningful off-field tributes as clubs honoured the occasion through commemorative jerseys and fundraising initiatives.
The Stan Sport broadcast saw Palmyra produce a dominant performance to defeat Southern Lions 47-14. Palmyra took control early and maintained consistent pressure throughout. Tries came from Nakagawa, Wood, Bailey, Mahaki, Bissett, and two from Jones, while Morgan was reliable from the tee with four conversions, supported by two from Robertson. Southern Lions showed resilience despite the scoreboard pressure, crossing through Tacikalou Naisiroki and Atthis, with Lamotoa and Herault adding the conversions.
Both clubs embraced the significance of the occasion. Southern Lions wore special ANZAC jerseys, which were auctioned post-match. One jersey raised $1,400 toward Ryan Grant’s journey to the 2026 Special Olympics Australia National Games, while proceeds from the remaining jerseys will contribute towards a new scrum machine for the club. Palmyra also wore ANZAC jerseys, with their auction to take place at their next home game.
Wests Scarborough claimed a 38-26 victory over Perth Bayswater in a match that showcased plenty of attacking intent from both sides. Wests crossed for six tries, with Tia and Cakaubalavu each scoring twice, alongside further tries from Hulme and Moody. They added four conversions to apply consistent scoreboard pressure. Perth Bayswater responded with attacking energy of their own, scoring tries through Aiken, Muavou, Parsons, and Kini, with Heur converting three tries. Perth Bayswater also wore ANZAC jerseys, which were auctioned off post-match in support of the Bassendean RSL.
Associates continued their run of tight contests, edging out Wanneroo 31-29 in another thrilling encounter. Faogali led the way with two tries, supported by tries from Tolmie and Lemalu. Prior once again played a decisive role, converting all four tries and adding a crucial penalty goal that ultimately separated the sides. Wanneroo remained in contention until the final whistle, scoring tries through Mohuanga, Grattan, Thomson, and Buli, with Mainwaring adding three conversions and a penalty goal, but Associates showed composure when it mattered most.
Kalamunda secured a 19-10 win over Nedlands in a physical and hard-fought contest. Tries from Edwards, Te Muunu, and Houkamau laid the platform for the victory, with MacColl adding two conversions. Nedlands kept the pressure on through tries from Marshall and Koteka but were unable to find a way past Kalamunda’s defensive effort in the closing stages.
Cottesloe rounded out the round with a solid 28-10 win over Joondalup Brothers. Tries from Ward, Bevin, Bishop, and Greatwood highlighted Cottesloe’s attacking variety, while Taylor was perfect from the tee, converting all four tries. Joondalup Brothers found points through Nell, with Tarawa contributing a conversion and a penalty goal, but Cottesloe’s accuracy and control proved decisive.
With ANZAC Round now complete, the Men’s Fortescue Premier Grade ladder continues to take shape as momentum builds heading into Round 4.
