RugbyWA, originally known as the Western Australian Rugby Union (WARU), was established in 1893, making it one of Australia's oldest rugby governing bodies. The first recorded club competition in Western Australia began in 1895, marking over 130 years of competitive rugby in WA. Over the years, RugbyWA has played a crucial role in developing both grassroots and high-performance rugby, overseeing key competitions such as the Fortescue Premier Grade and state representative pathways, as well as a 12-year period with the Western Force and elite-level rugby.
