Western Force back-rower & WA product Carlo Tizzano spoke to Force TV after his maiden Wallabies call-up for the upcoming Tests against the Springboks.

WA product Carlo Tizzano has earned his maiden Wallabies call-up alongside four other Western Force stars for the upcoming Rugby Championship Tests against South Africa in Brisbane and Perth.

The Wallabies coaching staff, led by head coach Joe Schmidt, have on Thursday confirmed a 36-player squad for the upcoming Tests that include the Saturday 17 August clash at Perth’s Optus Stadium.

Force back-rower Tizzano is joined by newly-crowned Nathan Sharpe medallist Ben Donaldson, Hamish Stewart, Nic White and captain Jeremy Williams in the 36-player squad.

Tizzano’s maiden call-up comes only days after he was voted the Force Members’ MVP, along with winning the Club’s Force Man Award for the player who embodies the Force spirit on and off the field as judged by the coaches.

The 24-year-old UWA flanker was called into a wider Wallabies training squad in June, but this marks his maiden official international call-up.

With the Perth Test being the second in the series, Tizzano could also make a dream debut in his home city.

If he plays, Tizzano will be the first WA raised player to debut for the Wallabies since Curtis Rona in 2017 and Dane Haylett-Petty in 2016.

The squad will assemble in Brisbane on Saturday ahead of their Tests against back-to-back Rugby World Cup winners South Africa at Suncorp Stadium on August 10, before crossing the Nullarbor for a second clash at Optus Stadium in Perth.

There are limited tickets still available for the Brisbane Test, which is closing in on being a sell-out.

Wallabies head coach Joe Schmidt said: “There was plenty of discussion among the coaches but we’re hopeful that the squad selected will embrace the challenge of playing South Africa over the next fortnight or so.

“We know there’s a lot of hard work to do ahead of those Test matches and we’re looking forward to getting back together as a group on Saturday and rolling up our sleeves.

“The players enjoyed the vocal support we received during the July Tests, and they will be looking to earn continued public support over the coming weeks.”

Watch all the action on Stan Sport with every Wallabies Test streaming ad-free, live and on demand with Wallabies at home in 4K UHD. Wallabies matches will also be shown live on the Nine Network.

The Perth Test will be preceded by the Test Championship Long Lunch from 12:30pm-4pm on Friday 16 August at Optus Stadium. Springboks legend Bryan Habana along with Nathan Sharpe, Phil Waugh and Schmidt are among the guest speakers. Tickets are available here.
