WA 7s Bringing the Heat: Final Stop of the 2025-26 West Coast 7s Series

It was a hot weekend on and off the field this weekend, with the WA 7s bringing some heat to the West Coast 7s Series. 

Capping off the West Coast 7s Series for 2025-26 in style, the WA 7s saw big competition, fierce match ups and non-stop rugby action across the weekend at Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex.  

Despite the heat, 28 teams from Under 15s through to Senior Men and Women took to the field, battling it out for the final title of the 7s series. 

 

It was tough competition across the board in the Under 15s grade, with teams from Joondalup, Swan Suburbs, Wanneroo, Associates, Wests Scarborough and ARKS all going head-to-head.  

Following continuous dominant performances throughout the day, Swan Suburbs and Joondalup Blitz made their way through to the Grand Final. In an incredible showdown, it was one conversion that made all the difference, securing Joondalup’s victory, 24-26. Tries for Joondalup were scored by Alec Richardson (2), Samuel Osborne and Liziah Mareikura, with conversions from Osborne and Spencer Norris. 

For Swan Suburbs, tries were scored by Dziah Johnstone (2), Tusi Peni and Caelan Lasike, with conversions completed by Johnstone and Peni. 

 

The Under 16s saw a four-way battle for the title, featuring sides from Palmyra, Joondalup, Wanneroo and Cottesloe. A close Round 2 clash set the scene for the Grand Final between Wanneroo and Palmyra, both finishing their runs at the top of the table. With tough competition, Wanneroo emerged victorious, claiming the win 10-21.  

Tries for Wanneroo were scored by Matthew Scheepers, Samuela Fifita and Logan Baker, with conversions from Areka Wetere, Scheepers, and Fifita. For Pally Oorah, tries were scored by Louie Whimp and Pieter Prinsloo. 

 

The Under 18s saw some incredible match ups, with Aranmore Catholic College making their club Rugby 7s debut following continued dominance in the school competitions. Alongside Aranmore, sides from Rockingham, Nedlands and Wanneroo took to the field. 

Continuing their competition dominance, Aranmore made their way through to the Grand Final, coming head-to-head with a fierce Nedlands side. Proving too strong for the school side, Nedlands emerged victorious, securing a 22-17 win. 

Tries for Nedlands were scored by Jacob Smith, Cayden Whangapirita, James Aleni and Luke Scheepers, with Aleni completing one conversion for the side. For Aranmore, tries were scored by Campbell Evans, Matua Reedy and Longoatu Jr Vaka, with a conversion from Evans. 

 

The Social Men’s grade was a true clash of the ages, with a Colts side fielded by Nedlands coming up against Championship Grade heavyweights, Rockingham and ARKS, and Premier Grade clubs, Cottesloe and Joondalup.  

The young Nedlands Colts proved their stripes, running rings around the older sides, not conceding a single loss. Making their way through to the Grand Final, the Colts side came up against Joondalup Filthyz, a well-established competitive side who had also seen a day of strong competition. After a tough back-and-forth, Nedlands Colts emerged victorious, taking the title on Saturday afternoon. 

 

The Open Women’s grade was an incredible showcase of the women’s game, with players of all ages taking to the field. Combined sides from Kohahitanga, FRESH and Uprising went up against club sides, Palmyra and Wanneroo, in a series of epic matche ups across the Saturday. 

The Grand Final saw a showdown of some of the best up-and-coming players, as well as some local legends, with both Uprising and Kotahitanga featuring a plethora of young RugbyWA Pathways players. In a stellar performance, Uprising defeated the 2025 WA 7s victors, 17-10, Kotahitanga, lifting the trophy after an incredible match. 

 

The Open Men’s grade brought the heat, with fierce competition across the Saturday, keeping the competition tight. WestOz Nomads were looking for their next victory, having secured the title at the South West Summer 7s, and defending their 2025 WA 7s victory. The teams standing in their way were combined side, FRESH, Give Rugby, and Wests Scarborough.  

Showing their speed and dominance throughout the day, WestOz nomads were the team to beat, running through completely undefeated. Making it to the Grand Final, they faced Give Rugby, the charitable combined side, who had provided stiff competition throughout the day. Ultimately, WestOz Nomads proved to be too powerful, securing a 5-31 victory, and securing the title once again. 

 

An incredible weekend of Rugby, the 2026 WA 7s were proudly supported by Electrical Group Training, without whom the event would not have been possible. 

The West Coast 7s Series will return in mid-2026.
