RugbyWA is pleased to announce that Electrical Group Training has renewed its partnership, extending its support of women’s and girls’ rugby in Western Australia.
The renewed partnership sees EGT continue as Supporting Partner of the Female U16 and U18 Representative Teams and the Female Academy Program, with support now also extending to the Junior Girls Series – RugbyWA's community competition providing junior girls with regular opportunities to play rugby and develop their skills in a supportive environment.
EGT is Western Australia’s largest employer of electrical apprentices, connecting apprentices with a network of host businesses across the state so they can gain hands-on experience while completing their training. The model gives host businesses a flexible, low-risk way to grow their workforce, while giving apprentices the variety of work and structured support they need to build a long-term career in the electrical trade.
As the WA delivery partner for The Big Sister Program, EGT is uniquely placed to support and advance the participation of women in the electrotechnology and clean energy sectors in Western Australia. Big Sister is a Building Women’s Careers Program funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations. Big Sister is delivered across SA and WA and delivers a pre-vocational training program, mentoring, industry awareness events, employer engagement and employment opportunities to improve gender equity in traditionally male-dominated trades.
Since first partnering with RugbyWA in 2025, EGT has played an important role in supporting the growth of women’s and girls’ rugby across Western Australia. Most recently, EGT supported RugbyWA’s U16 and U18 Female State Representative Teams, helping emerging players compete at the representative level and continue their development both on and off the field.
RugbyWA Chief Executive Officer, Simon Taylor, said: “Electrical Group Training has been a genuine supporter of women’s and girls’ rugby, helping emerging players access representative opportunities and continue their development both on and off the field.
“Extending EGT’s support to the Junior Girls Series will provide more young players across WA the opportunity to participate, develop and progress through the pathway."
EGT Chief Executive Officer, Carl Copeland said: “With the help of RugbyWA and the Big Sister Program, 14.5% of EGT’s apprentices are women. Partnering with RugbyWA helps EGT spread the word that an electrical apprenticeship is more than just a viable option for women, it’s a chance at a long-term career in our industry”.
RugbyWA's female rugby pathway continues to grow across the state, with opportunities for girls and young women to get involved from grassroots through to representative level.
