The wild conditions didn’t keep the Women’s Fortescue Premier Grade from going ahead this weekend, with big matchups amongst the downpour of rain.
There are just two rounds to go in the Fortescue Women’s Premier Grade regular season, before the competition enters Semi-Finals. Round 12 of the competition saw rain games and muddy fields, alongside some tough competition as the battle towards Finals gets more and more real.
Down at Harvey Field, Kalamunda Kweenz defeated the home side, Cottesloe, 7-26. In a huge change up from their last match up, where Cottesloe found themselves on the side of a 60-0 loss, the Shegulls pulled out some solid defence to keep an impressive Kalamunda side at bay. With a strong line up, it was still a huge win for Kalamunda, as they keep their winning streak alive, and increase their chances of entering the Finals Series.
Tries for Kalamunda were scored by Crystal Walters (14’), Zakia Kereopa (23’), Nari Little (46’) and Braxton Walker (58’), with three conversions from Libya Teepa (24’, 48’, 59’). For Cottesloe, one try was scored by Madyson Ierome-Fatu and one conversion from Jessica Foster.
Wests Scarborough took on Wanneroo at home this weekend, with impressive performances from both sides seeing Wanneroo escape with the win by just seven points. The wet weather didn’t stop both strong sides from showing up and showing out, putting on an impressive display of skill and defense. The win marks Wanneroo’s tenth win of the season, recovering from their shock loss last weekend to Kalamunda with impressive performances by their young side. Nami Dickson proved to be a force to be reckoned with on the field, putting two past the line, while Wests Scarborough’s equally young talent, including Kiriwai Tetuhi, put on a strong performance. The final score saw Wanneroo slip away with the win, 12-19.
Tries for Wanneroo were scored by Dickson (2) and Zarna Munro, with two conversions from Terina Te Tana. For Wests Scarborough, tries were scored by Tetuhi and Tizanae Kovacs, with one conversion from Talitha Heta.
