The Ellenbrook Vipers Rugby Union Club came together on Sunday to celebrate the volunteers whose dedication helped shape one of Western Australia’s fastest-growing rugby communities.

Held through the support of a Volunteer Recognition Grant from Volunteering WA and Lotterywest, the Volunteer Appreciation and Life Member Celebration recognised the coaches, managers, committee members, supporters and community volunteers who have contributed to the club’s journey over the past 12 years.

The event brought together current and former members of the Vipers family, creating an opportunity to reflect on the club’s growth from a small community initiative in 2013 to a thriving rugby club with more than 160 registered players and pathways from Get Into Rugby through to junior rugby.

Throughout the afternoon, volunteers were recognised for the countless hours they dedicate behind the scenes to create positive experiences for the players and families and help rugby to thrive in Ellenbrook.

A special highlight of the celebration was the presentation of the club’s first-ever Life Membership to Adam Munro.

For more than a decade, Munro has played a significant role in the development of the Ellenbrook Vipers as a coach, mentor, committee member and volunteer. His leadership and commitment have helped guide the club through key milestones, including its transition to an independent club and the expansion of opportunities for young people to play rugby in the region.

Reflecting on the significance of the day, Ellenbrook Vipers Rugby Union Club President Janine Briggs said: “Sunday was a celebration of the people behind the scenes who have helped build the Ellenbrook Vipers over the past 12 years.

“From the founding volunteers who took a chance on a new club, to those who continue to coach, manage, referee, fundraise and volunteer today, it was an opportunity to pause and recognise the people who make community sport possible.

“Seeing past and present members come together to celebrate Adam's Life Membership and reflect on the club's journey was incredibly special and a reminder that strong clubs are built on the dedication of volunteers."

RugbyWA Chief Executive Officer Simon Taylor said the celebration highlighted the important role volunteers play in creating strong, sustainable rugby clubs.

“The growth and success of the Ellenbrook Vipers is a reflection of the many volunteers who have given their time, energy and passion to create opportunities for young people to play rugby close to home,” he said.

“Strong clubs are built by volunteers, and it is fantastic to see the Ellenbrook Vipers recognising the people who have helped shape the club over the past 12 years.”

RugbyWA congratulates Adam Munro on becoming the first Life Member in Ellenbrook Vipers Rugby Union Club history and thanks him for his outstanding contribution to rugby in Ellenbrook. RugbyWA also congratulates the Ellenbrook Vipers on a wonderful celebration and extends its appreciation to all volunteers across Western Australia whose dedication continues to strengthen clubs, grow participation and create thriving rugby communities.
