Young female rugby players will have the opportunity to learn from some of the game’s most inspiring figures this July, with RugbyWA confirming the first coaches for its Girls Only Holiday Clinic at Perth Bayswater.
Designed for the girls in the U12-U15 age groups, the clinic combines skill development, confidence building and connection in a fun, supportive environment, while giving participants direct access to women who have competed, coached and played at some of the highest levels of the game.
Leading the coaching lineup is Sera Ravatudei, RugbyWA Development Officer and former Fiji international. From captaining teams in Western Australia to earning international honours with Fiji and contributing to the inaugural championship-winning Fijuan Drua Super W squad, Ravatudei brings a wealth of experience shaped by resilience, leadership and a deep passion for growing the women’s game.
“Every challenge and opportunity throughout my career has shaped me both on and off the field,” Ravatudei said.
“Through the highs and the setbacks, I want people to understand that setbacks are not your full stop, they are part of the journey, not the end of it.”
Joining her is current Western Force Super W player and RugbyWA Development Officer Kahu Sturmey. Representing Western Force and having previously captained the Manawatū Cyclones and represented Hurricanes Poua in New Zealand’s premier competitions, Sturmey brings elite playing experience alongside a strong commitment to coaching, officiating and creating inclusive rugby pathways.
Completing the coaching group is Zarna Munro, a standout product of the RugbyWA pathway system who has progressed through the academy from the age of 14. Her rugby journey includes selection in the Perth Gold Squad (2024), representation in the North vs South fixture (2025), and consecutive U18 State Team selections across 2024, 2024 and 2025. In 2026, she was appointed Vice-Captain of Perth Bayswater, reflecting her leadership both on and off the field.
Now working as a RugbyWA Development Officer, Munro delivers programs across Western Australia to players of all ages and skill levels. Through this role, she has built strong expertise in player development, coaching delivery and skill acquisition, while gaining a unique perspective from both progressing through and now contributing to the pathway system.
Beyond their achievements on the field, all three coaches highlight the many ways people can contribute to rugby. Through their work in development roles and community programs, participants will gain insight into coaching, mentoring and giving back to the game – showcasing pathways that extend well beyond playing careers.
With more coach announcements still to come, places for the Girls Only July Holiday Clinic are limited and expected to fill quickly.
The clinic will be held at Perth Bayswater on July 10 and is open to girls aged U12-U15, with registrations available here.
The clinic also highlights the vital role coaches play in creating positive sporting experiences. RugbyWA is encouraging more women, parents and community members to consider stepping into coaching, with education and development opportunities available throughout the year to support people at every stage of their journey.
Behind every player’s first pass, first try and growing confidence is a coach who helped make it possible.
