The AFGRI Albany 7s took place this weekend, seeing thousands of rugby lovers descend on the regional town in a celebration of Junior Rugby.

Over 1000 junior participants aged from Under 8s through to Under 15s took to the field in Albany over the weekend for the AFGRI Albany 7s, marking the biggest turn out in the tournament’s history.

With 77 teams, the tournament was a smashing success, with a plethora of family members joining the junior rugby participants, alongside coaches, team managers and match officials.

Competing teams travelled from throughout Western Australia to compete, from as far north as Joondalup and Wanneroo, through to Kalgoolie in the East. The tournament saw matchups of teams from throughout the South West and Metropolitan, in addition to the Goldfields, with multiple teams from the recently relaunched Goldfields Rugby, based out of Kalgoorlie, marking their return to the Western Australian game.

The Goldfields Rugby Club took out the AFGRI Albany 7s ‘Spirit of the Game’ Award, celebrating their hard work and dedication to relaunching the game in the region. The club, which covers the regional areas of Kalgoorlie, Coolgardie and Kambalda, and launched in July of this year, fielded an Under 9s and an Under 11s side.

Part of the West Coast 7s series, the tournament marked the second event on the Rugby 7s calendar for 2025-26, following the NAIDOC Bunbury 7s in July. The event also saw RgubyWA once again partner with AFGRI Equipment Australia, who came on board as the Naming Rights Partner and provided an incredible display of their equipment across the two-day tournament.

Competing clubs in the 2025 AFGRI Albany 7s included Albany Storm, ARKS, Associates, Bunbury Barbarians, Bunbury Bulls, Busselton-Dunsborough Junior Beetles, Cottesloe, Ellenbrook Vipers, Goldfields, Joondalup Brothers, Kalamunda, Mandurah Pirates, Margaret River Gropers, Nedlands, Palmyra, Perth Bayswater, Rockingham, Southern Lions, South West Spirit, Swan Suburbs, Wanneroo, and Wests Scarborough.

Congratulations to all teams who competed, and to the Cup, Shield and Plate winners from all grades.
