Round 2 of the 2026 season delivered another high-quality weekend of rugby across the Men’s Fortescue Premier Grade, highlighted by a strong Stan Sport broadcast and several matches decided by fine margins.

The Stan broadcasted match saw Cottesloe continue their impressive early-season form with a 40-29 win over Nedlands. Hunt crossed twice, with further tries from Mounsey, Sail, and Kaho. Taylor was outstanding from the tee, converting five tries to stretch the margin. Nedlands remained competitive and struck back repeatedly through Palu, who scored two tries, alongside Johnson, Marshall, and Robson. Innes and De Lange added a conversion each, but Cottesloe closed out the contest.

At Bennett Park, Associates snatched a dramatic 35-34 victory against Wests Scarborough in a pulsating encounter. Wests Scarbrough produced plenty of attacking firepower, scoring through Baker, Kuresa, Hooper, Hulme, and a penalty try, while also adding two conversions and a penalty goal from Tane Koteka. Associates stayed in contention throughout and were rewarded, powered by an outstanding hat-trick from Faogali, with Oosthuizen and New also crossing. Prior proved the difference at the tee, landing all five conversions in a result decided by a single point.

Joondalup Brothers made a strong statement with a dominant 50-19 win over Southern Lions. The Brothers were clinical in attack, spreading the scoring lead with tries from Whittingham, Tua, Richardson, Foroncelli, Miller, two from Tuialii, and a penalty try. Tarawa added three conversions, with Whittingham also converting, as Joondalup consistently capitalised on their opportunities. Southern Lions showed fight through tries from Naborisi, Scholtz, and Nasilasila, converted by Lamotoa and Turagava, but were unable to match Joondalup’s attacking control.

UWA edged out Palmyra 36-32 in a tightly contested match, with both sides trading scores throughout the match. UWA’s tries came through Young, Merritt, Shortall, and two from McEntee-Walters, with Young adding four conversions and a crucial penalty goal. Palmyra remained in the hunt throughout, scoring two tries from Alatini and further tries from Wood and Prinsloo, with Morgan adding three conversions, but UWA held firm in the closing stages.

Wanneroo made it two wins from two with a controlled 30-12 victory over Bayswater. Tries from Iti, Callan, Ale, and two from Mohuanga highlighted Wanneroo’s attacking depth, while Ale contributed from a conversion and penalty goal. Perth Bayswater scored tries from Saulala and Kini, with a conversion by Heuer, but were unable to slow Wanneroo’s tempo after halftime.

With two rounds now complete in the Men’s Fortescue Premier Grade, attention turns to ANZAC Round in Round 3, where teams will look to build momentum in a significant weekend on the competition calendar.
