Fortescue Senior Rugby Livestreamed Fixture – Championship Division

Palmyra v Kalamunda, Tompkins Park. Canning Highway, Alfred Cove. Kick-off 3:30 pm.

After narrowly missing out on a premiership division spot by one point, Palmyra will have all the inspiration they need to knock off last years premiership finalists Kalamunda at Tompkins Park.

The last encounter between the two clubs in round one was a feisty affair that saw Kalamunda run away with a four-point victory at home.

Kalamunda will have all the confidence they need going into this clash having toppled Perth Bayswater 58-20 at Pat O’Hara Reserve last weekend.

Kalamunda’s Matthew Berry exploded onto the scene in the win over Perth Bayswater last week scoring a hat-trick of tries.

Palmyra sits on top of the championship ladder with 36 points, clear five points of Kalamunda with 31 points.

A one-point loss to Arks last week meant Palmyra failed to make the top six, however there were some stirring individual performances from the Pally side including from April’s Colt of the Month
Marcus Arindell who was solid at outside centre and ran in a try of his own.

Premiership Division

Wanneroo v Wests Scarborough, Kingsway Reserve. Spectator Drive, Madeley. Kick off at 3:30 pm

Wanneroo will be looking to make amends this week at home after an agonizing 8 point loss to top of the table Cottesloe last week.

The men from the north narrowly secured a premiership division spot, scraping past Palmyra with only 1 point splitting the two clubs on the ladder.

Wanneroo showed glimpses of their stellar form in 2019 against the Gulls but it wasn’t enough to upset the premiership favorites.

Ethan Reilly was the standout for Wanneroo last week scoring all ten points along with Wanneroo’s only try.

Wests travel north with a boost of confidence following their comfortable 106-3 victory over the Curtin Goats in which they ran in 16 tries.

Wests will be looking to come out of the blocks firing against the ‘Roo Dogs’ after struggling to start well in first half of games in 2019.

The last affair between these two sides was a low scoring affair which saw the ‘Boars’ run away 7-5 winners in round 10.

Nedlands v UWA, The Foreshore. Cnr Broadway & Esplanade, Nedlands. Kick-off 3:30 pm.

UWA will be looking to seek revenge at the foreshore against a prominent Nedlands team that clinched a narrow three-point victory over them at McGillivray in round 6.

Both teams enter this mammoth contest with strong showings in 2019 with them both sitting in the top four.

UWA comfortably secured a premiership division spot last week with an exquisite 49-point win over northern rivals Joondalup.

The man to watch for UWA this week will be Leonaitasi Feke after a stellar showing against Joondalup that saw him run in a hat-trick of tries.

Depending on other results tomorrow, a win against UWA could put Nedlands on top of the table, who only sit one point behind Cottesloe.

Despite their impressive form in 2019, Nedlands were pushed to the edge last week against the Cavaliers that saw them escape with a 19-13 victory.

Associates v Cottesloe, Allen Park. Odern Crescent, Swanbourne. Kick off at 3:30 pm.

An exciting round 14 continues as top of the table Cottesloe go to the boneyard looking to topple their arch enemies Associates in another edition of the Battle of Broome Street.

Cottesloe enter this game as the heavy favorites having destroyed Soaks 30-0 at Harvey field earlier on in the season.

It was the reliable boot of Benjamin Meredith that steered the Gulls to victory last week over Wanneroo, kicking 2 penalty goals along with one conversion.

However, the gulls will be on guard tomorrow with Associates displaying some solid performances over the last 2 weeks with wins over Perth Bayswater and a destructive 91-17 win over the

Southern Lions at home last week.

Associates will be without long time back-row servant Dean Taylor-Menzies who travels to the UK to begin a new chapter in his rugby career.

One man to keep a close eye on will be Associates youngster Lachie Phillips who has just been awarded this month’s Colt of the Month.

Championship Division

Coastal Cavaliers v Curtin University, Oakmont Reserve. Oakmont Avenue, Meadow Springs. Kick off at 3:30 pm.

The Cavaliers will be looking to bounce back this week against an ever-improving Curtin side.

It has been a season of mixed emotions for the Cavaliers who have had their fair share of moments in 2019 including a one-point win over Wests in round 11, and they will be looking to establish
their presence in the Championship division this weekend.

The Cavs came close last week but fell short of Nedlands, who ran away with an 18-13 victory in the final stages.

Last month’s Colt of the Month James Petherick was a standout yet again last week running in a try, while scrum-half Matthew Griffiths kept the Cavs in the game with two penalty goals.

The Curtin Goats who are still in the hunt for their first ever Fortescue Premier Grade victory will be looking to improve on last week’s disappointing performance against West’s.

The last time these two sides met, the Cavs clinched their first win of the season with a 47-6 win.

Perth Bayswater v Joondalup, Pat O’Hara Reserve. Wellington Road, Morley. Kick off at 3:30 pm.

Both Perth Bayswater and Joondalup’s seasons got off to a rocky start, but round 14 marks an opportunity for both clubs to make a push in the latter half of the season.

Both clubs suffered large defeats last week at the hands of Kalamunda and UWA

In what was a bleak day for ‘The Numbats’ last week, halfback Keenan Meade was the shining light scoring one of the two tries scored by Bayswater along with two conversions and two penalty goals.

As for Joondalup, their disappointing 61-12 defeat at McGillivray will need to be put behind them if they are to get on top of Perth Bayswater.

Joondalup goes into the encounter with the upper hand after defeating Perth Bayswater 49-0 in their last meeting in round five.

Arks v Southern Lions, Harrisdale Field. Gracefield Boulevard, Harrisdale. Kick-off at 3:30 pm.

Despite missing out on the Premiership division, Arks have been one of the biggest improving clubs from 2018 with 7 wins in 2019 including a nail-biting 36-35 win over Palmyra last weekend.

Gershom Adams was stunning last weekend for Arks scoring two tries while skipper Russel Burges was involved with a try and three conversions.

The Southern Lions will certainly be focusing on responding well this week after falling victim to the boneyard against Associates.

The Lions will be thirsty for a win, going without a win since round seven when they defeated the Cavaliers away from home 27-24.

Round nine was the last meeting between the two clubs that saw Arks secure a solid 38-26 victory.
