There are officially two years until the 2027 Men's Rugby World Cup lands on our shores.

Two years from today, Perth Stadium will host the opening match of the biggest Men’s Rugby World Cup in history, kicking off six weeks of world-class rugby across Australia from 1 October to 13 November, 2027.

Taking place every four years, the Men’s Rugby World Cup is the most prestigious Rugby Union event, and the third largest sporting event in the world. The tournament will feature 24 teams competing over six weeks (seven-weekends), between 1 October and 13 November.

Hosting the Opening Match of the tournament, Perth is set to see some of the best international talent descend on the city, with seven fixtures set to play in Western Australia.

Western Australia will host the first match of the tournament, in addition to four other pool matches and two Round of 16 matches at Perth Stadium. Perth will also be the host to the first game of the Wallabies campaign, kicking off their tournament.

Following the announcement of the fixture in early 2025, Western Australian-born Wallaby and RugbyWA program alum, Carlo Tizzano, said: “It’s incredibly exciting to see Western Australia be the host of the first game of the Wallabies campaign, right here in Perth at the best stadium in Australia. As a player who grew up in Western Australia and played in the RugbyWA system, it’s great to see Rugby Union on display in the state, as well as showing off Western Australia and our talent to the world.”

RugbyWA Chief Executive Officer, Simon Taylor, said: “With just two years to go until the Rugby World Cup 2027 kicks off here in Perth, excitement is already building across Western Australia. To host the opening match of the tournament and welcome some of the world’s best rugby nations to our state is an incredible opportunity that we are immensely looking forward to. This will be a once-in-a-generation moment for rugby in WA, inspiring our community, growing the game, and showcasing Perth on the global stage.”

As Rugby Union’s governing body in the state, RugbyWA is looking forward to seeing both our state and our game on show to a global audience in two years' time. Part of the exciting Golden Decade of Rugby, the Men’s Rugby World Cup marks an incredible opportunity to highlight Rugby Union within Australia. The arrival of the 2027 Men’s Rugby World Cup marks a unique experience to unite Western Australians on and off the field, inspiring community engagement and driving passionate involvement, fostering greater connection between the international game and grassroots communities.

RugbyWA thanks the Rugby World Cup, World Rugby, Tourism WA and the Government of Western Australia for their incredible work throughout this period as we lead into the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
