Travelling to country regional southwest, the RugbyWA development team had the main objective of creating an establising a stronger rugby union network within the southwest school community that will lay the foundations in 2021.

The team took the trip for a much more targeted and focused approach in growing the rugby union footprint across country regional areas. Through increased consistent school delivery and the introduction of the Rugby Schools Cup interschools competition in the Midwest and Southwest country regional areas for the 2022 season.

The week commenced delivering and introducing many new boys and girls to rugby union through a vast range of non-contact and contact high school focused rugby skills and game awareness games over the course of the few days.

Kicking off with over 220 boys and girls from Australind Senior High School and Our Lady of Mercy, Grace Christian College to over 150 students with a full day at Bunbury Baptist College engaging with over 240 new boys and girls to rugby union.

Concluding the delivery with Busselton Senior High School, presenting to 120 students and Cape Naturaliste College which saw 300 year seven to year ten students partaking in a full day of rugby union focused activities.

After a productive week of delivering, the team completed their trip with Southwest SSWA sporting schools committee at Evendon Park Retreat with the intent to incorporate rugby union into the annual country week program conducted in Perth Metro each year.

The trip was extremely sucessful for the RugbyWA development team and was well received by schools, teachers, students and parents.

Placing RugbyWA in a strong position to grow our game in the country regional WA, looking aherad to a bigger and even more exciting 2022.
