The Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough Women’s Challenge Cup kicks off this weekend, with the best of the women’s game coming head-to-head.
For the first time, the Women’s Premier Grade sides will go head-to-head in a preseason tournament, with the inaugural Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough Women’s Challenge Cup kicking off.
With a different format to the Men’s tournament, the Women’s Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough Challenge Cup will see the six Premier Grade sides meet for two rounds before their regular season kicks off. Still holding the round robin, knockout style that makes the Men’s tournament so interesting, the women’s sides will compete for the Challenge Cup trophy, with the final two teams facing off for their final during their first match up of the regular Premier Grade season.
With a big weekend of rugby ahead, the Women’s Premier teams will have the chance to secure some silverware in their preseason, preparing them for a big season ahead.
For 2024 Fortescue Premier Grade Champions, Wanneroo, their first battle of the preseason comes in the form of Wests Scarborough – a team to watch.
In 2024, Wests Scarborough Warriors had an impressive season, with 7 wins throughout the season. They meet Wanneroo for the first time since they knocked them out of the running for the Grand Final, where they held their own despite Wanneroo’s season-long dominance.
Wanneroo come off the back of their 2024 Grand Final victory, and a long winning streak. 2024 saw the side with zero losses and only one draw, with their continued powerhouse performances seeing them defeat Palmyra 20-8 at the Grand Final. Heading into the Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough Women’s Challenge Cup, there will be a target on their back, as everyone looks to try and get a win over last year’s victors.
Wanneroo will take on Wests Scarborough at home this weekend, with kick off set for 10AM.
Southern Lions’ Lionesses will see their first dance back in the Premier Grade, after not fielding a squad in the top competition for the past two seasons. The Champions of the 2024 Women’s Community X’s, they’re out to prove the importance of the growth and depth of the competition, and pull some surprise victories of their own.
For Round One of the Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough Women’s Challenge Cup, the Lionesses will be up against the Cottesloe Shegulls, who saw an impressive off-season competing in RugbyWA’s WA 7’s series, including a victory at the South West Summer 7’s. For Cottesloe, the 2025 season marks a new opportunity for comeback, after only finding three victories in the 2024 season.
Cottesloe Shegulls v. Southern Lions Lionesses will kick off at 10AM at Harvey Field on April 12, 2025.
Kalamunda Kweenz will take on UWA later in the week, as the teams continue to train and grow their numbers.
