Round 2 of the Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough Challenge Cup saw some some big wins and upset performances as the pre-season tournament enters the final stage.
The Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough Challenge Cup will enter it’s final round next weekend, as teams emerge from a smashing weekend of rugby.
Nedlands continues their domination streak, with a 71-14 win at home over 2024 Challenge Cup winners, Kalamunda. Scoring a whopping 11 tries and 8 conversions, all completed by Matty Lansdown, Nedlands has put themselves in a strong position ahead of the 2025 Fortescue Premier Grade, dominating some of the best teams in the competition before it’s even kicked off. Tries for Nedlands were scored by Riley Brewis, Daniel Jones (2), Layken Tua, Ryan Lowrens, Dante Santos (2), Tupou Kaufononga (2), Fraser Gosse and Hamish Dawson. For Kalamunda, tries were scored by Ben Tata and Isaako Enosa, with two conversions from Ryley MacColl.
One of the big games to watch this weekend saw Cottesloe upset Palmyra, defeating the 2024 Minor Premiers by just three points. At home, Cottesloe finished the match 24-21, with tries from Beau Beadle, Jacob Waikari-Jones, and two from Jonathan Toelupe. Phoenix Hunt and Terrance Graham completed the two conversions for the side. For Palmyra, tries were scored by Kieran Duffin, Pisi Leilua and Manihera Eden, with Rhys Morgan completing all three conversions for the team.
Both Cottesloe and Nedlands will now advance to the Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough Challenge Cup final, competing for the preseason title.
In the first Premier Grade-Championship Grade match up of the Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough Challenge Cup tournament, Wanneroo saw a huge win over Rockingham at home, finishing the game 50-7. Tries for Wanneroo were scored by Ammaru Iti, Jordan Grattan, Tashier Newsome-Smith, Carl Lawson, Manase Mohuanga (2), Luke Ale and Cormac Marrey. 5 conversions were completed by former RugbyWA Academy player, Thomas Crofts. For Rockingham, their try was scored by Josh Hanson, with a conversion from Matthew Griffiths.
Down in Success, Southern Lions came up against Joondalup Brothers. In a close match, Joondalup just scraped through with the victory, leading Southern Lions 12-14. Tries for Joondalup were scored by Rhys Richardson and Christopher Romano, with both conversions from Camron Ngatai. Tries for Southern Lions were scored by Conan Thiedeman and Meli Naborisi, with a conversion from Liam McKinnon.
The finals for the Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough Challenge Cup will be held at Bennett Park on Saturday, April 29. Fixtures will be released later this week.
