The Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough Challenge Cup has concluded, with Nedlands taking out the Cup Final in spectacular form.
Under the blazing sun on Saturday, the Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough Challenge Cup came to a conclusion, with the Plate, Bowl, Shield and Cup Finals playing out at Bennett Park.
The afternoon kicked off with the Bowl Final, with Wanneroo taking on Joondalup Brothers. Joondalup picked up a try in the first minute, turning their kickoff into an early lead. However, the lead didn’t last long, with Wanneroo quickly taking back the lead and dominating the game to emerge victorious, 59-14. Tries for Wanneroo were scored by AJ Preketes (2), Riley Rae (2), Jake Boon, Kade Davis (2), Jasper Asi and William Pepermans. Seven conversions for the side were completed by Nicolas Schonfeldt. For Joondalup, tries were scored by Ruvan Gouws and Thomas Coombs, with conversions by Mitchell Wilby and Luan Potgieter.
On Field 2, Southern Lions came up against Championship Grade side Rockingham, who proved themselves to be tough contenders as they held their own against the Premier Grade team. Despite their 38-0 loss, Rockingham kept the game interesting, with a strong performance throughout the match, and were dominant on the ball. However, with quick feet and powerful skills, Southern Lions scored six tries and four conversions throughout the match to be crowned Bowl victors. Tries for Southern Lions were scored by Ross McKean, Kaeli Tacikalou Naisiroki, Liam McKinnon, Corentin Dussargues, Raikadroka Rafaele and Abel Thomas, with Edward Turagava completing the conversions.
The Shield Final was a showdown between 2024 Challenge Cup runners-up, Associates, and Perth Bayswater, as they battled for the win. Associates put on a strong performance throughout the match, proving to be too strong for the Bayswater side, sealing their victory 47-14. Tries for Associates were scored by Ethan Stratton, Justin Landman, Nick Johns, Kelton New, Connor Gilbert and Sione Tuitavake, in addition to a penalty try. Conversions were scored by Justin Landman (4) and Tim Scheepers. For Perth Bayswater, tries were scored by Horatio Ovbiagele and Mitsumasa Harayama, with two conversions from Jack Park.
The big dance kicked off between Cottesloe and Nedlands, with Nedlands proving to be the favourites going into the Cup final. With two big performances from both sides already in the bag for 2025, the stakes were high as the two teams battled it out. Despite putting their all into their performance, Cottesloe just wasn’t quite able to sneak past an impressive Nedlands side, who took out the Cup 7-43. Tries for Nedlands were scored by Graser Gosse (2), Samuel McCormack, Chris Raymond, Tupou Kaufononga (2) and Matty Lansdown, with Lansdown also completing four conversions. For Cottesloe, their try was scored by Nathaniel Gallagher, with the conversion from Terrence Graham.
The Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough Challenge Cup will now turn its attention to the women’s competition, with the six women’s teams battling it out for Cup victory. The Women’s Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough Challenge Cup will kick off on April 5, 2025.
