Returning from the long weekend bye, the Fortescue Women’s Premier Grade entered its fifth round of the competition for 2025.
Round 5 of the Fortescue Women’s Premier Grade saw new matchups and the return of old foes, with newcomers Southern Lions facing Kalamunda for the first time, and a Grand Final rematch hitting the field at Kingsway Reserve.
It was a tough battle for Southern Lions at home as they come up against the Kalamunda Kweenz for the first time in the 2025 season. Despite their light bench, the Kweenz dominated the competition, defeating the Lionesses 39-0. With seven tries keeping the victory far from their opponents’ grasp, Kalamunda reminded the competition of their power and dominance.
Tries for Kalamunda Kweens were scored by Jessica Aim (4’), Libya Teepa (27’), Crystal Walters (39’, 53’), Braxton Walker (43’), Sophie Foster (66’) and Chevy Brinkworth (69’). Two conversions were completed by Nicole Ledington 40’, 54’).
The Grand Final rematch went down in style at Kingsway Reserve, with young talent lighting up the field as Wanneroo secured their fourth win of the season. Reminding the competition of their status as reigning Premiers, the Divaz put on a strong performance against Palmyra, who held their own in the face of strong bodies and young legs, reminiscent of their consistency throughout the 2024 season. The battle of the round, Wanneroo secured their victory, defeating Palmyra 36-17.
Tries for Wanneroo were scored by Teiana Mainwaring, Nami Dickson, Sera Ah-Sam, Ocean Tuhua, Ai Dickson and Shianna Templeton, with three conversions from Ai Dickson. Tries for Palmyra were scored by Taylor Johnstone, Stella Masters and Clare Gamble, with one conversion from Kendra Fell.
Across at UWA Sports Park, Wests Scarborough dominated the game against UWA, with a huge nine tries against the side. Western Force’s Sera Naiqama made her impact known in the Fortescue Women’s Premier Grade, scoring her first two tries as part of the Wests squad, alongside the host of talent featured in the side. Despite the dominance of Wests, UWA put up a strong fight, scoring against a strong defensive side.
Tries for Wests Scarborough were scored by Eston Tiakia, Sera Naiqama (2), Grace Wilkinson, Tayla Pearson, Karien Oosthuizen, Chylah Puki, Bella Houghton and Fipe Moli. Three conversions were also scored by Houghton.
For UWA, one try was scored by Paige Powell, with a conversion from Sara Kifayatullah.
Round 6 of the Fortescue Women’s Premier Grade will return next weekend, with Wests Scarborough v. Southern Lions streaming live on Stan ahead of the Fortescue Men’s Premier Grade.
