The Fortescue Women’s Premier Grade competition entered its third round this weekend, with tough competition across the board.
Competition is heating up in the Fortescue Women’s Premier Grade, with Wests Scarborough proving to be strong competition entering the third round. Coming up against Palmyra, the side saw a 26-38 victory for their first win of the season, with strong performances from young guns such as Bella Houghton, and returning Western Force prop, Hannah Palelei. Palmyra’s Vesinia Schaaf-Taufa also saw an impressive game, with two tries at the 32nd and 50th minutes.
Tries for Wests Scarborough were scored by Fipe Moli, Megan Liddicoat, Tizanae Kovaxs, Hanah Palalei, Shiho Soneda and Valuese Tiakia, with four conversions from Houghton. Tries for Palmyra were scored by Schaaf-Taufa (2), Finekifolau Tu’imola (64’) and Clare Gamble (68’), with three conversions completed by Kendra Fell (33’, 64’, 68’).
At McGillivray Oval, Cottesloe had a huge performance, dominanting UWA in spectacular fashion. With a scoreline of 0-85, the Shegulls put on a show, scoring a whopping 13 tries and 10 conversions to resolutely seal their win away from home. Western Force’s Sheree Hume secured a hat trick, alongside Jessica Foster, who also completed two conversions, making a massive mark on the game.
Tries for Cottesloe Shegulls were scored by Hume (3), Foster (3), Sophie Hart, Jessica Harvie, Langley Sesega, Zoe Elliott, Amanda Thomas, Keita Brown and Tabitha Cleary. Conversions were scored by Foster (2), and Georgia Cormick (8).
In the Community X’s, it was a tight matchup between Perth Irish and Wests Scarborough at Centenary Park, with Irish securing their first win of the season. With just a conversion from Ashling Watters keeping the sides apart, the final score saw Irish (17) defeat Wests Scarborough (15).
Tries for Perth Irish were scored by Jenna Corkey (2) and Elly McQuade, with Watters completing one converion. Tries for Wests Scarborough were scored by Varanisese Sige, Maraea Slade and Trinity Lea.
The Women’s competition enters Round 4 this coming weekend, with big match ups and tough competition inbound.
