Round 10 of the Senior Men’s competition played this weekend.

With rugby returning for the Juniors and Senior Women’s this weekend, Senior Men’s kicked off their fourth round of the season, with the RugbyWA Cup up for grabs down at Tompkins Park.

The RugbyWA Cup sees the cup on the line each match – if the holding team loses, the cup passes to their opponent. With a challenge match being hosted by Palmyra at home, Cottesloe had the chance to steal the cup, with the hopes of hanging on to it until the end of the season.

With the chance to steal the cup looming, Cottesloe looked to put in a big performance to stop the 2024 Minor Premiers from another season of domination. An absolutely huge game, the sides battled for 100 minutes to determine victory, with Cottesloe sliding a try and conversion past Palmyra at the last second to take the RugbyWA Cup from them. Scores were Palmyra, 17, defeated by Cottesloe, 21.

Tries for Cottesloe were scored by Kaisa Reidy, Jacob Waikari-Jones (23’) and Ethan Cayless 9100’), with Waikari-Jones also completing three conversions. Tries for Palmyra were scored by Kieran Duffin (32’), Pisi Leilua (59’) and Viliami Fine (74’). Matt McKenzie completed one conversion (74’).

Up the coast at Allen Park, Associates and Southern Lions had a close match, with only a penalty keeping the points in Associates’ favour. In an upset performance, Southern Lions held strong against the reigning Premiers, with the game finishing 24 to 21.

Tries for Associates were scored by Connor Gilbert, Sam Faoagali and Sam Meecham, with three conversions and a penalty from Justin Landman. Tries for Southern Lions were scored by Kaleb Akaroa, Roam Oupin and Kameli Tackialou Naisiroki, with three conversions from Serupepeli Vularika.

In the Championship Grade, Perth Irish saw an incredible performance against travelling side, Bunbury Barbarians. Putting on a show in front of a home crowd, the match marked Irish’ Vice Captain, Denis Leane’s 100th cap for the club, who also scored two tries for the side. Tries for Perth Irish were scored by Eoin O’Carroll, CJ O’Sullivan, Peter Doyle, Denis Leane (2), Noah Butler, Chris Blockley, Austin Chandler and Neil Mulama. Six conversions for the side were scored by Tom Glynn.

Round 5 will kick off this Saturday, with Cottesloe v. Associates being streamed live on Stan.
