The Golden Oldies World Festival kicks off this weekend, with five teams from Western Australia making the trip to Singapore.

A union for players over 35 years old who are passed their Premier Grade days, Golden Oldies offers fun, friendship and fraternity to all who are involved – as well as offering the incredible opportunity to be involved in an international rugby festival hosted in Singapore next week.

With 10 teams in Western Australia, SCRUMWA encourages everyone who loves the game to stay involved by playing with modified rules that are designed to ensure a safe player environment, for all members including those still playing in their eighties.

Next week, four of SCRUMWA’s teams, in addition to a team from the Pilbara, will take to the field in Singapore for the Golden Oldies World Festival, to compete against more than 60 teams from around the world.

The Festival will be held over a week, with three days of play on the lush fields at Dempsey Hill, in addition to four days of social opportunities for participants. Over 500 members of the Golden Oldies community are expected to attend to Festival, bringing the fun of rugby to Singapore.

Western Australia will be represented by the Midland Puffin Billies, Kalamunda Old Bulls, Wandering Pigs, Arkives and North West Galloping Goannas. SCRUMWA President, Mike Honer, will also be representing the Golden Oldies as the Referee Coordinator for the Festival.

“We wish the best of luck to all members of our Golden Oldies community travelling to Singapore,” RugbyWA CEO, Simon Taylor, said.

“RugbyWA is thrilled to see international participation in the game, and to see how rugby drives passionate involvement in all members of the community. It’s great to see our Over 35s participants living out the game for all motto, and truly embracing the opportunity to inspire community connection and get involved.”

Over 35s rugby is offered by SCRUMWA in Western Australia, and provides the opportunity to play rugby and make new friends. Games are held every second week during the regular season, and provide a festival atmosphere for all participants to get involved.
