The Western Australian U15 State Championships came to a close yesterday when Central Perth claimed the Julie Skiba shield with a resounding victory over South Perth at Perth Bayswater Rugby Club. The Central team managed to regain their focus after a thrilling 22 all draw against North Perth on Friday night and remain undefeated for the tournament.

After an exciting week of play, the teams went head-to-head throughout the week with the hopes of gaining a spot in the final, a number of players displayed true grit and determination on field however Luke Holt-Brown from Central Perth, took home the Player of the Championship.

“A lovely day for rugby, the two teams tactically played with team cohesion”, stated Pathway Manager Brenden Loag. “The game was a great display of the up-and-coming talent that Western Australia currently has coming through its pathways, we are excited to see the development of teams and players throughout the 2022 season”.

All players in the State Championships program were encouraged to work hard on their fitness and skills during the summer break to prepare themselves for the 2022 U16 State Championships held in the July school holidays. The selection window for these young men will commence during the early rounds of next seasons’ school and club competitions. Some players may be fortunate enough to be invited to train in the RugbyWA Emerging Academy which will commence during a period in November.

Western Australia endeavours to field its State Team in the Under 16 National Junior Rugby Championships that will hopefully recommence in October 2022.
