The 2021 Festival of Rugby went off with a bang last week as Rugby WA attended the bi-annual event, hosted by Scotch College.
Held on the 13th and 15th of April, the event brought a number of players out on field to provide them with the opportunity to display their evolving rugby skills.
A number of teams played within the tournament, with each team playing one game per day.
o Trinity College
o Wesley College
o Aranmore Catholic College
o Christchurch Grammar school
o Scotch College
o Thornlie Senior High School
The Rugby WA staff had a number of highlights from the tournament in which they assisted in coaching and refereeing. With outstanding individual brilliance from Thornlie number 15 against Scotch College on day one. Catching the ball on his own 22-meter line near the right sideline, whilst dodging defenders and ending up with a score in the right-hand corner, a terrific display of rugby skill.
A physical first quarter between Trinity and Scotch College opened out, as spectators and coaches saw scores level at 7 all.
Aranmore vs Thornlie took their place on field for the final game of day two which saw both teams give everything they had. The final score displayed the battle out on field, finishing on 17 all. With both teams not wanting to cease playing when the final whistle was blown. The re-match between the two teams, is set to be one to watch.
The tournament will look to grow to great depths in the number of teams which participate, including teams from over east and overseas pending travel restrictions. Providing plenty of action out on field as well as the potential platform and event for WA rugby to expand and players to further their skills and techniques.
Rugby WA would like to say thank you to the Scotch College staff who prepared a picture-perfect field and pre-tournament organisation. The referees cannot go unnoticed throughout the tournament and those who assisted over the two days.
