The Corporate Scrum: Building the Future of Women’s Rugby Through Coaching, Partnership and Purpose

RugbyWA, in partnership with SLW Transport, recently delivered a successful women's coaching initiative, fully funding 15 aspiring female coaches to complete the Essential Coaching Skills course through a Women’s Only development session. 

This initiative is more than a course – it's a long-term investment in the future of women’s rugby. By equipping these women with qualifications and practical tools do lead teams from Under 13s through to Pathways and High-Performance levels, we’re not only strengthening the coaching pipeline, but also championing greater diversity in leadership roles withing the game.  

Already, 6 of the graduates have joined RugbyWA’s Junior Girls Regionals Championships coaching staff, contributing directly to our High-Performance pathway and delivering immediate returns on this strategic development effort.   

Under 16 Blue Coach and Western Force Fullback, Aiysha Wigley, took part in the course. She shared: “I’m really excited to be coaching all these girls this year. This is my first time ever really doing some coaching, so I was really nervous. I think one of the most rewarding things I’ve seen so far is just the growth of the girls each week, and watching  

SLW Transport Director, Leanne Wilcox said: “SLW Transport has come on board because we believe in anyone that wants to play rugby can achieve greatness. By educating and connecting people within our rugby family to those who have walked the path and know how to have access to mentors, they can access these opportunities for success.”   

This collaboration is a powerful example of how targeted investment and meaningful partnerships can create real, measurable impact in sport – building capacity, driving inclusion, and shaping the next generation of leaders.
