Over the past few months newly appointed Director of Rugby, Steve Anderson has led the charge in driving RugbyWA forward through the way of an internal review in the delivery of rugby services.
Prior to the review, Anderson recently transitioned from a Performance Director role at Rugby Australia, moving under the RugbyWA’s banner aligning with RugbyWA’s strategic plan.
As part of his recent portfolio, he has ushered change for the Future Force academy and RWA pathway structures to support the growth of Western Australian talent.
Anderson has over 30 years professional experience in high performance across the globe in both Rugby and Rugby League.
His many appointments include senior coaching roles at the Melbourne Storm (NRL) when they won the 1999 Premiership; Assistant Coach Australian Kangaroos winning 2000 World Cup.
He also coached in the UK Super League at Leeds Rhinos as well as Head Coach for the Warrington Wolves.
Anderson initially made the transition to rugby union working with London Irish, UK Premiership; Blue Bulls, Pretoria (Super Rugby) and Glasgow Warriors (Magners League) before accepting national appointments at Scottish Rugby Union (Performance Director) and Irish Rugby Football Union (High Performance Manager).
Steve’s role as Director of Rugby at RugbyWA will oversight key strategic initiatives:
- Facilitate rugby department policy for community participation and pathway departments
- Provide strategic game-development for the rugby program
- Provide research and planning for whole of game development concepts
- Lead section reviews and concept modelling
In addition, he will provide alignment for the senior, junior and schools competitions to ensure RugbyWA is delivering world best programs at the highest possible standard.
