RugbyWA Women return to Kingsway for round four Rebel clash

Wanneroo Rugby Club will host a third RugbyWA Women’s home game at Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex this Sunday.

Since the inception of the Super W competition, the City of Wanneroo venue in Madeley has played host to at least one of the RugbyWA Women’s home games each season.

The RugbyWA Women will return for the 2020 season to face the Melbourne Rebels on March 8, kicking off 3.30pm.

Wanneroo Rugby Club have been working with the City and RugbyWA to get more rugby events at Kingsway, including the ‘Females in Union’ social day and the 2019 Fortescue Senior Rugby Grand Finals.

Over the past three years the number of rugby events held in Wanneroo has had a ripple effect throughout the local community, strengthen the club’s performance and participation numbers.

Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts was ecstatic with the development of women’s rugby in Wanneroo and looking forward to this weekend’s game.

“It’s clear to see the club’s engagement with the Super W competition in particular has been has had an extremely positive effect on the women’s program, with the side winning the Alcohol. Think Again Women’s competition title in 2019,” she said.

“This is the third year in a row the City of Wanneroo has proudly supported RugbyWA’s Super W competition and I’m delighted to host these events regularly.

“We have a history of assisting sporting clubs from elite to grass roots level.

“Providing high quality facilities such as the Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex means the community has the opportunity to watch peak teams play in the local area and enjoy matches with a team the calibre of RugbyWA Women.

“The City has been upgrading its infrastructure services to ensure that amenities are relevant to the sports being played and the people playing them."

“Providing unisex facilities, for example, is part of our commitment to encouraging diversity and inclusion in all we do.”

Wanneroo Rugby Club will celebrate the life a young Divaz player who recently died through suicide with a focus on the ‘R U OK?’ message during exhibition matches before the Super W game, starting 9am on March 8.
