The Joondalup Brothers have broken Palmyra’s five-year winning streak to take out the 2018 Club Championship Award for best all round club performance.
Having not won the award since 2007 the Championship reflects the depth and talent Joondalup possess from top to bottom.
Carried by an extremely strong junior’s cohort Joondalup have established themselves as a club powerhouse in the younger age groups.
With seven Junior teams having made it into the 2018 Junior Grand Final Series, The Brothers came away with a total of four junior grade grand final flags having a heavy swing on the Club Championship table.
Adding to the incredible success in the Juniors their Seniors didn’t disappoint lead by an extremely talented first grade side that made it into the Premiership Division of the competition.
The Reserves, Third Grade and Colts followed suit with the twos finishing second on the table and the Colts and threes both finishing third in their respective divisions reflecting the incredible depth Joondalup have created over the years.
This all-round solid performance from all grades had a massive effect on the table this year even though the Brothers did have a senior grand final appearance.
Big names graced HBF Arena this year running out for the Brothers including Western Force winger and Joondalup junior Clay Uyen making his impact in the Premier Grade playing along side long time captain Johann Louw and Western Force NRC squad member Sheldon Tarawa.
After joining the club last year Western Force star flanker Brynard Stander’s presence in the club added another layer of leadership and experience, as he lead from the front and had a huge impact in the locker room.
Joondalup also have a lot of promise looking towards the future with the club having four representatives apart of the Future Force Program, Liam Fletcher, Liam Gourlie, Sam Barsby and Victor Harris have all being training full time in WA’s leading pathway program.
The apparent success the Joondalup Brothers have had this year can’t be attributed to the players alone as many worked behind the scenes the build up the brotherhood within the club.
Premier Grade Coach Dave Wells had a huge impact on the club leading the entire senior playing group to ample success throughout the year, showing long time commitment Wells has coached over 100 Premier Grade games for Joondalup securing himself as an all time club legend.
Chairmen Kevin Russell oversaw the smooth running of the club working hard with Secretary Jayne Russell to build Joondalup up to one of the premier rugby organizations in Western Australia.
It is apparent the Joondalup Brothers have established themselves as a dynamo through the years and now a club to be feared through all divisions.
The Club Champions Award is a testament to the hard work Joondalup have put in on and off the field this year to break a five-year winning streak held by front runners Palmyra is a milestone that the club will hold high and never forget.
