The RugbyWA Juniors Grand Finals took place at Nedlands Rugby Club over the weekend as all of Junior club rugby came together for the final clash of the Junior Rugby Season.
With the scores so tight across all age groups the finals weekend was nothing but a display of the strength and unity of all the WA junior rugby community.
There were many highlights across the whole day with a couple of games coming down the wire leading to a display of nail-biting rugby.
Wests Scarborough opened their finals campaign well making it into the first game of that day as their Under 10s side took on the Rockingham Rivals.
Quick thinking from the young Wests halfback saw him put Rockingham on their toes, darting from a number of rucks and scrums.
Followed up by some dead eye kicking the halfback was able to edge his team ahead just taking home the chocolates with a three-point win.
It was an unlucky day for Rockingham as their next match was another tight loss against North Coast Rugby Club in the Under 12s.
The Renegades played an outstanding brand of rugby playing a very physical and defensively focused game.
However North Coast were able to just edge over, taking away with win by only two points.
The following match was yet another cracker and can be argued the most exciting match of the afternoon as Perth Bayswater held on to beat the Joondalup Brothers in the Under 13s Division.
The Perth Bayswater fly-half was a standout in his match leading his team to a stunning victory, organizing his defensive line the ‘Numbats’ were able to hold Joondalup off the line to finish the match with a three-point victory.
On field two the girls U15s Championship took place as the teams played a number of games trying to earn a spot in the U15s Girls Championship Final.
Kalamunda showed they were a dominant force knocking off ARKs in the first round which advanced them straight into the final.
The girls in red and white were able to bounce back taking out Wests Scarborough in the repechage game booking their own place in the grand final facing Kalamunda yet again.
Despite an improved performance from their first match ARKs couldn’t get over the Kalamunda girls losing by 18 points.
Finishing off the day was the heavily anticipated Under 17s match between Rockingham and Joondalup.
With both sides running out a number of state players on the field the level of rugby displayed was certainly at it’s highest.
In a very hotly contested match Joondalup lead for the majority of the game holding a large lead until the final quarter.
A late surge from Rockingham put Joondalup’s win on a knife edge however the boys from the north were able to hold them off taking home the title with a three-point win.
The grand-final day was extremely successful bringing together the entire rugby community to watch a day of top-class rugby.
Joondalup and Southern Lions were to two most successful clubs on the day taking home two flags repsectively.
RugbyWA would like to thank Nedlands Rugby Club for hosting such an amazing event as well as the RugbyWA Junior executive for all they do to make the RugbyWA Junior competition happen.
