Fortescue Senior Rugby Livestreamed Fixture – Premiership Division

Cottesloe v Nedlands, Harvey Field. Broome Street, Cottesloe. Kick-Off 3:30pm.

If there’s one match you don’t want to miss this season it’s this one.

Be sure to tune in to the Fortescue Senior Rugby Livestream of what could potentially be the match of the season.

Nedlands will turn up to Cottesloe on Saturday having sent a strong message last Saturday with a superior win over Associates that saw them dethrone Cottesloe as the top side in the Premiership Division.

‘Neddies’ erupted with nine tries on the weekend including a scintillating long-range try from fullback Kauri Cudd which was set up beautifully by vice-captain Ammon Matuauto who broke two tackles followed by an offload to Cudd who cruised under the posts.

It was a bittersweet day last Saturday for Cottesloe who suffered only their 3rd loss of the season against Wests Scarborough in a high scoring contest at the ‘Pig Pen’.

Homegrown Western Australian products Tobias Hoskins and Nick Jooste performed impressively for the ‘Gulls’ despite their loss and will be looking to repeat their dominant play this time around.

Cottesloe won’t want to suffer a fall from grace late in the season as a loss this weekend could result in them dropping to third place below an ever-improving Wests Scarborough team.

Premiership Division

Wanneroo v Associates, Kingsway Reserve. Spectator Drive, Madeley. Kick-Off 3:30pm

This fixture promises to be a savage contest as the dogfight for fourth place is sure to take place in this matchup of the Fortescue Premiership Division.

After snatching victory from the jaws of defeat in their last meeting at the ‘Boneyard’, Wanneroo will be keen to repeat another victory over ‘Soaks’ this season and leapfrog them into fifth place.

Wanneroo fell painfully short of a famous win over UWA in the Belt-Up Match of the Round last weekend, going down 15-12 in what was a seesaw affair at McGillivray Oval.

After taking an early five-point lead against UWA thanks to the handy work of fullback Stephan Nolson, Wanneroo looked set to put UWA to the sword.

However, it wasn’t to be for Wanneroo as they struggled to infiltrate the vicious UWA defence throughout the clash.

Like the ‘Roo Dogs’, Associates couldn’t have asked for a better start in their game against Nedlands on the weekend as Western Force utility back Rodney Iona pounced on a loose pass to score a runaway try under the posts in the first minute of the game.

If this clash turns out to be anything like their previous meeting then both clubs better be prepared for a bumpy ride.

UWA v Wests Scarborough, McGillivray Oval. Brockway Road, Mount Claremont. Kick-Off 3:30pm

Both these teams will have a spring in their step this weekend with both sides coming out of the Belt-Up Round with major victories.

UWA walked away from last weekend’s Match of the Round as victors following an arm wrestle contest against Wanneroo.

A Dylan Fletcher penalty goal with 25 minutes left on the clock proved to be the difference in the end as UWA hung onto the lead as the game went down to the wire.

UWA fullback Romulusi Masi was instrumental throughout the game against Wanneroo and picked up the Belt-Up Man of the Match Award.

As for Wests Scarborough they turned up the heat at the ‘Pig Pen’ to claim what could be their most important win of the season over the top side Cottesloe.

‘The Boars’ ran four tries past Cottesloe including a breathtaking counter-attacking try from fly-half Jarome Leonard that was charmingly assisted by fullback Walter Koteka who sliced through the ‘Gulls’ defence like a hot knife through butter.

A win for ‘The Boars’ this week will put them in the arms race for that all-important top spot in the Premiership Division which could set them up nicely come finals time.

Championship Division

Coastal Cavaliers v Arks, Oakmont Reserve. Oakmont Avenue, Meadow Springs. Kick-Off 3:30pm

The Coastal Cavaliers will be quietly confident heading into this fixture after claiming their second win in a row on the weekend against Perth Bayswater.

Back-rower Ashib Leota put himself in the spotlight for the Cavaliers in last weeks win with two tries while Matthew Griffiths must be commended for slotting six from six conversions.

Despite sitting ten points outside the Championship Division top four, the Cavaliers won’t be giving up hope of a semi-finals spot just yet as they chase down the Southern Lions who sit three points above them on the ladder in fifth place.

ARKs will be out to redeem themselves this weekend after a tough 41-34 loss to a solid Kalamunda side last week, falling convincingly in what can only be said as a battle of Goliaths.

ARKs scrum-half Thomas Fifita-Tovo was impressive last Saturday featuring in RugbyWA’s Belt Up tries of the week after a cheeky snipe from the back of the ruck that saw him run over 30 metres down the field to score.

The last time these sides clashed, ARKs prevailed as winners 18-8 at Harrisdale in round six. However, this time The Cavaliers will be thirsty to knock off ARKs as they search for their third win on the trot.

Kalamunda v Perth Bayswater, Hartfield Park. Morrison Road, Forrestfield. Kick-Off 3:30pm

After three long weeks on the road, Kalamunda will return home to Hartfield Park this week with the wind at their back after a much needed 41-34 win over ARKs in Harrisdale last week.

Nothing but a win will be acceptable for Kalamunda this weekend as they look to snatch second place in the Championship Division.

Perth Bayswater will be in the hunt for only their third win of the season this weekend hoping to show their improvement late in the season.

Although they lost last week, the ‘Numbats’ demonstrated some stupendous rugby scoring, one of which came through outside centre Walker Smith who executed a nice try in front of the clubhouse following a stirring pass from Western force scrum-half Issak Fines.

If Perth Bayswater can string together some of that majestic rugby we’ve seen previously this season then an upset could be brewing for this clash.

Curtin University v Southern Lions, Edinburgh Oval. Dumas Road, Bentley. Kick-Off 3:30pm.

The Southern Lions will make their way to ‘Goat Land’ this Saturday to take on a Curtin side who crossed for two impressive tries against Joondalup last weekend.

Former Wallaby and now Western Force hooker Andrew Ready scored both of Curtin’s tries last week, one which saw him crash over from a pick and go, catching Joondalup off guard at the fringe of the ruck.

The Lions will have to be on full alert of Curtin’s forward pack this weekend after their hardy front-rowers gave the Joondalup forwards a difficult time for large chunks of the game last week.

The Southern Lions will be hoping to dust themselves off this week as they went down fighting in a bruising clash against a classy Palmyra side.

A win will be important for the Southern Lions this weekend as they continue their resurgence for a top four spot in the Championship Division.

Joondalup Brothers v Palmyra, HBF Arena. Kennedya Drive, Joondalup. Kick-Off 3:30pm

In what could potentially be the most exciting match in the Championship Division this weekend, both sides will be looking to explode out of the block trying to take hold of the momentum.

Joondalup will want to be at their excellent best if they are to be any chance of shooting down this dynamic Palmyra team that has been on a winning rampage in the last few weeks.

Joondalup got back to their winning ways in round 15 with a 47-12 win over Curtin at home that saw Daniel Redmond lead the charge with two tries.

Palmyra also picked up a big win in round 15 over the Southern Lions and will be yearning for another victory this weekend as they take the long journey up the Mitchell Freeway to HBF Arena looking to extend their lead up the Championship Division table.
