At its recent 2025 Annual General Meeting, three new members were elected to the RugbyWA Board of Directors.

RugbyWA is happy to announce the election of Peter Malcolm and Shaun Hardcastle, and the reelection of Justin Shakeshaft, to the RugbyWA Board of Directors.

Peter Malcolm is the former President of Nedlands Rugby Club, and has been involved with rugby since the age of 7, playing juniors, schoolboys, seniors and over 35s rugby throughout his lifetime. Mr. Malcolm has operated in a series of positions throughout his time with Nedlands since 2007, including serving as President from 2014 to 2017, and again from 2021 to 2023. Outside of rugby, Mr. Malcolm was involved in land and mining surveying, where he has worked as the Commercial and Contracts Manager for Transhipment Services Australia, and the Commercial and Contracts Director for Cal Dive/Shelf Subsea.

Mr. Malcolm was elected to serve a two-year tenure on the RugbyWA Board.

Shaun Hardcastle joins the Board as a corporate lawyer, who has been involved in rugby in Western Australia since he was a junior. Mr. Hardcastle started his rugby career as a junior at Associates, going on to play state junior representative rugby, before moving to UWA Rugby Club as he started university, where he played over 100 games for UWA and captained the First Grade side, in addition to playing and captaining the WA Under 21’s team and Perth Gold. He has also served as a coach for Christchurch Grammar School’s First XV, and served at UWA Rugby Club as Vice-President and Sponsorship Manager. As a corporate lawyer, Mr. Hardcastle is the Perth Managing Partner of Hamilton Locke, and operates as the head of its National Corporate Team.

Mr. Hardcastle was elected to serve a one-year tenure on the RugbyWA Board.

Justin Shakeshaft has been reelected to the RugbyWA Board, following two years of service. Mr. Shakeshaft will serve an additional two-year tenure.

RugbyWA President, John Welborn, said: "I am thrilled to welcome Shaun and Peter to the RugbyWA Board. Individually and collectively, they bring a wealth of experience to the team—both professionally and through their deep involvement in rugby across many levels of the game.

“As we head into an incredibly exciting period for the sport, with the British & Irish Lions Tour, the Bledisloe Cup playing here in Perth, and a Men's and Women's World Cup on the horizon, I am confident their contribution will be instrumental. Their insight and passion will help us inspire community connection, drive passionate involvement, and unite Western Australians on and off the field."

Mr. Hardcastle and Mr. Malcolm will replace Trevor Cook and former Chairman, John Edwards on the RugbyWA Board of Directors. RugbyWA thanks them both for their service to rugby in Western Australia, and their dedication to the growth and development of the game.

Congratulations to the new and reelected Board Members, who will be joining the existing RugbyWA Board of Directors, John Welborn, Josh Aislabie and Debby Carley.
