Round 9 was a big weekend in the Fortescue Women’s Premier Grade competition.

With big score differences, the competition is proving to be tough across the ladder, with teams clamouring for victories.

Heading into Round 10, it will be a battle for all sides to keep their defense tight and scores off the board.

At Kingsway Sports Complex in Round 9, Wanneroo Divaz stopped Wests Warriors’ powerful lineup to secure a 21-0 win. Lucy Lockhart was a standout for the match, scoring two tries and completing three conversions for Wanneroo, with an additional try from Topaz-Jean Porter. This win came off the back of a difficult Round 8, where the side scraped past Kalamunda to capture the win by just a point.

Now, with Round 10 kicking off this Saturday, Wanneroo adjusts their sights to Palmyra, as they tackle the third-place side at Tompkins Park. The last time the two sides faced each other was three rounds ago, with Palmyra giving a strong performance, but ultimately being defeated by the top-of-the-table powerhouses. With a 5-10 outcome, it was only a try that separated the two teams in their Round 7 clash.

Wanneroo Divaz will meet Palmyra this weekend at Tompkins Park, with kick off set for 2:00PM. The match will be streamed live on Rugby Xplorer

Kalamunda Kweenz are set to take on Cottesloe Shegulls this weekend in the Fortescue Women’s Premier Grade, following a big win in Round 9. Coming up against UWA, Kalamunda saw a 68-15 victory at Hartfield Reserve, with a whopping twelve tries and four conversions.

Tries for Kalamunda were scored by Roera Mako, Nari Little (4), Sophie Foster, Arania Didiwik, Wairakau Greif (2), Libya Teepa, Kitakamizona-Heke and Journey Kereopa. Libya Teepa also completed four conversions to secure Kalamunda’s 53-point difference.

Cottesloe Shegulls will be coming off a forfeit this week as they tackle Kalamunda at Harvey Field and looking for a win. The sides haven’t met since Round 1 of the competition, where Kalamunda trumped the Shegulls 27-5.

Kicking off at Harvey Field, Cottesloe Shegulls will face Kalamunda Kweenz at 2:00PM.

In the Community X’s, Wanneroo saw a 46-32 victory over Southern Lions at home last weekend. Tries for the side were scored by Majesty Pomare (3), Teiana Mainwaring, Makaea Monk (2), Alana Clarke and Kahu Reti. Mainwaring also completed three conversions. From Southern Lions, tries were scored by Erin Sinclair, Mereani Naqau, Katie McLaren, Sharmily Hallett-Wharewaka and Madeleine Ramsey, who also completed one conversion.

Heading into Round 10, Wanneroo are set to face Rockingham at Lark Hill Sporting Complex for the second time this season. With a 67-12 defeat in Round 5, Rockingham will be looking for a weakness in Wanneroo’s strong armour, to find a win.

Rockingham are also coming off a Round 9 loss, as they enter the weekend. Coming up against Mandurah on Thursday, July 11, Rockingham suffered a 19-37 defeat to their fellow Southern club. Tries for Rockingham were scored by Olivia Gumina, Sarah Acke and one other, with two conversions. For Mandurah, tries were scored by Kylee Leota, Tira Heke, Gabby Ruge, Neisha-Leigh Tutara-Cecil, Hinehou Savage (2) and Maria Madigan, who also completed the side’s singular conversion.

Rockingham will meet Wanneroo at Lark Hill Sporting Complex this Saturday for Round 10, with kick off set for 1:50PM.
