Fortescue NAIDOC Round kicks off this weekend. 

As the competition enters its eleventh round, teams will celebrate the upcoming NAIDOC Week with events taking place across clubland.   

 

Heading into NAIDOC Round, Wanneroo is set to meet Kalamunda at home this Saturday, in a top-of-the-table battle. 

Wanneroo found a win against Palmyra last Saturday, and are set to take on Kalamunda for the second time in the 2024 season. Fresh off their 5-10 win against Palmyra last weekend, Wanneroo is looking for another win to keep them high on the ladder. A strong performance from Palmyra kept them at bay on Saturday, with tries for the Wanneroo scored by Shiane Kani and Majesty Pomare. Palmyra’s try was scored by Ocean Tuhua.  

Kalamunda saw a smashing success against UWA at Tompkins Park, beating the side 57-0. Tries for Kalamunda were scored by Libya Teepa (2), Wairakau Greig (2), Sophie Foster, Braxton Walker, Jessica Aim, Mariah Bell and Journey Kereopa. Six conversions were completed by Nicole Ledington. Wanneroo is set to face Kalamunda at Kingsway Sports Complex on Whadjuk Noongar boodja at 1:50PM, and will be streamed live on Rugby Xplorer. 

 

Cottesloe and UWA are set to battle it out on Saturday, with both sides fresh off a loss.  

The Cottesloe Shegulls too on Wests Warriors last weekend at Tompkins Park during Fortescue Women in Rugby Round, coming out defeated with a score of 26-38.  

Warriors’ tries were scored by Megan Liddicoat, Rianna Pocsidio (10’), Sereana Naqarase (34’), Andrea Fernandez (40’), Paige Thornton (50), as well as Valuese Tiakia (29’), who also completed four conversions (30’, 34’, 40’, 50’). Tries for Cottesloe Shegulls were scored by Mackenzie Sattler, Langley Sesega, Numi Tupaea and Jessica Foster, who also completed three conversions. 

They will meet UWA at McGillivray Oval this Saturday. 

 

In Community X’s, Mandurah Pirates will join the NAIDOC celebrations up at Kingsway Sports Complex when they come against Wanneroo.  

Last Saturday, the Pirates drew with Wests Scarborough, a 22-22 finish. Tries for Mandurah were scored by Natalie Manu, Tristen Beier, Mauata Tutara-Cecil and Ashley, with a conversion form Maria Madigan. For Wests, tries were scored by Abbie Walls, Natalia Butcher, Nicole Tucker and one other. Natalia Butcher also completed a conversion. 

For Wanneroo, they meet Mandurah after a 54-5 victory over Perth Irish at Tompkins Park. Makaea Monk scored an incredible four tries for the side, with Kayla Bezuidenhout and Lusio Marama scoring two, and Dalia Stowers and Jahlia Kani-Cadogan scoring one. Madison Dufall completed two conversions for the side. Lucy Phelan was Perth Irish’s sole try scorer. 

Southern Lions and Rockingham will also be going head-to-head in NAIDOC Round, with celebrations happening down at Southern Lions. The sides are both coming together after wins in the Women in Rugby Round, with Southern Lions defeating Palmyra/UWA 19-48, and Rockingham clinching a 17-22 win over Perth Bayswater.
