The first rainy round of the 2025 season arrived this weekend, as the competition entered its seventh round.

The 2025 season is keeping everyone on their toes, with tough competition across the board.

Cottesloe’s close battle with Southern Lions puts them on top of the ladder for the first time in the 2025 season, marking their sixth straight win for the year. With just four points separating the sides, it was a tough back-and-forth, resulting in three yellow cards throughout the match. Proving to be a side to watch this season, Cottesloe saw solid performances from Joe Ratusoqosoqo, scoring two tries, as well as from kicker Sam Brown. Southern Lions held their own against the strong side, with Kameli Tacikalou Naisiroki scoring two tries.

Tries for Cottesloe were scored by Lowayde van Niekerk, Alwyn Prinsloo, Ethan Cayless and Ratusoqosoqo (2), with three conversions from Brown. Tries for Southern Lions were scored by Brennen Leef, Abel Thomas and Naisioki (2), with conversions from Edward Turagava and Serupepeli Vularika. One penalty goal was also scored by Turagava.

In the Belt Up Colts, Associates had a huge game against Wests Scarborough, walking away with a 19-40 win away from home. With a strong line-up including RugbyWA Academy and Western Force Academy players, Associates proved to be tough rivals for the home side, dominating where it matters. The win sees Associates take second place on the 2025 Belt Up Colts ladder, sitting just one point below Cottesloe, who took away a big win against Joondalup.

Tries for Associates were scored on the day by James Tan, Felix Cooper, Luke Megson, George Taylor (2) and James Mahaffy, with five conversions completed by Jensen Gowdy. For Wests Scarborough, tries were scored by Connor Hulme and Charles Cairns, with one conversion from Archie Elton, in addition to a penalty try for the side.

A top of the table clash in the Community Grade saw Rockingham emerge victorious against the Curtin Goats. Two dominant sides, the match saw Curtin’s first loss of the season, giving them a run for their money despite their huge start to the 2025 season.  With a strong back-and-forth, it was a tough match for both sides, ultimately seeing Rockingham take home their sixth win of the season, with a score of 18-3.

Tries for Rockingham were scored by Mark Diver, Kalani Pou-Fagavao and Tyron Mulholland, with one penalty goal from Ari Gray. One penalty goal for Curtin was scored by Robert Fulton.

This weekend will see a competition-wide bye for all grades, before returning on June 7, 2025.
