Albany Storm is set to host junior rugby legends this Saturday and Sunday, as the AFGRI Albany 7’s kicks off.

Over 70 junior teams from across Perth and Country WA will take the field in Albany this weekend for the AFGRI Albany 7’s.

Kicking off at 8:00AM on Saturday, October 5, the competition is set to feature a swarm of junior players ranging from U8s through to U14s. The young competitors are set to battle it out at Eastern Pavillion for a place in the Cup, Shield and Plate finals, which are set to be played on Sunday afternoon.

Competing clubs include ARKS, Albany Storm, Associates, Bunbury Barbarians, Cottesloe, Dunsborough-Busselton Junior Dungbeetles, Ellenbrook Vipers, Esperance Redbacks, Joondalup Brothers, Kalamunda Districts, Mandurah Pirates, Margaret River Gropers, Nedlands, North Coast, Palmyra, Perth Bayswater, Wanneroo Districts, Wests Scarborough, Kwinana Wolves, South West Spirit and Swan Suburbs.

In its seventh year of competition, the event is set to be the largest 7’s tournament in RugbyWA history.

“We’re looking forward to seeing players from across our junior rugby community come together in Albany for the AFGRI Albany 7’s,” RugbyWA General Manager – Rugby, Dane Lazarus said.

“It’s an excellent opportunity to bring together players from regional and metro Western Australia, and to see them get involved in the 7’s format.”

Part of RugbyWA’s WA 7’s Series, the AFGRI Albany 7’s marks the first of three 7’s competitions hosted within the state, as well as the first of two hosted in the Southwest. The event will also mark the first time RugbyWA has partnered with AFGRI, who are the event’s naming rights sponsor.

“With the Southwest a growing rugby community, we’re grateful for [AFGRI’s] commitment in bringing the game for all to everyone within the state, and providing the opportunity for our juniors to get involved in 7’s in Albany,” RugbyWA CEO, Simon Taylor said.

The tournament will play over two days, with matches commencing from 8:00AM. The Albany Storm RFC Canteen will be open, and the event will feature equipment displays from AFGRI.

Exclusive merchandise from Cosy Coast will also be available for purchase.
