Competition ramps up for the Under 17s Girls

Clubs are still on the hunt for female participants aged between 14-17 looking to boost the success of the Under 17s competition.

Currently Arks, Southern Lions, Wanneroo, Wests Scarborough and Kalamunda are all fielding teams in the competition are looking to increase their playing base in the hope of creating the most competitive tournaments in the state.

Presently off the back of three Girls Club sessions participation numbers have grown immensely and all four clubs are aim to produce a ten aside competition come the start of the Junior season on May 8, with a fifteen a side competition looking promising for the future.

Over the last three sessions feedback from both players and parents have echoed how fun and exciting the new Under 17s playing group has been all while fielding an extremely high level of talent.

While many of the players currently playing are showing extremely promising signs, club coaching staff have been putting a great deal of focus into beginners creating a fun, safe and competitive environment for all players.



Discussing the future of the competition Female Program Manager Beth Whaanga was extremely impressed with the standard and encourages all girls to register new or experienced.

“Looking at how the Girls have performed over these last three Girls Club sessions have been extremely impressive, the group have created a fun and environment that any player looking to join would feel welcomed.”

“I must commend the coaches and administrators on their efforts recruiting new girls to the game, hopefully we can create a strong 10 a side tournament that lasts the during of the junior season.”

“This age group has been a key focus for both RugbyWA and the club community and will be key in driving feeding our pathway programs driving forward.”

Wallaroos Ariana Hira-Hernagi and Trilleen Pomare have also endorsed the program attending the Kalamunda Girls Club to help coach and meet prospective players.
