RugbyWA has recently signed a memorandum of understanding with School Sport Western Australia (SSWA), increasing rugby exposure throughout the state.

SSWA provides a link between sports organisations and schools to allow RugbyWA to promote various activities that schools can associate.

Through the alliance between RugbyWA and SSWA, teachers and students will understand better what school-based events RugbyWA offers throughout the year.

Program Manager, Community Development, Dane Lazarus spoke around the need to introduce rugby to students who may not have played or seen the game previously.

“As a State Sporting Organisation, it is great to be one of the many sports that students and teachers can access through the SSWA program,” Lazarus said.

“Rugby offers a wide range of formats that can cater to any student or teachers need from Touch 7s, Try RugbyRoos or full 15 a side competition.”

“Personally, I think this will be a great opportunity to showcase rugby and provide new participants with a sense of the community within it.”

“The assistance with promotion and information around the game is crucial, and through the linkage between the SSWA website and our own, it has never been easier to learn about our game.”

“Our major focus from here is to integrate rugby as part of the school’s curriculum giving students a wide range of skill development that rugby brings as a sport.”

RugbyWA has launched the SSWA website that links through to all of RugbyWA resources, opportunities and event dates targeted at the school’s community.
