The Belt Up Road safety message returns for the last round of the Premier Grade season to promote the importance of putting on your seat-belt whenever you get in the car.

Wearing a seatbelt is one of the best protections when sitting in a vehicle and can potentially save your life.

Next time you hop into a vehicle be sure to check you and your loved ones are safely fastened to ensure a safer journey for all.

Match of the Round

Kalamunda v Nedlands, 3:30pm, Hartfield Reserve, Forrestfield

Nedlands will need nothing short of a miracle in the Belt Up match of the round as they look to avoid the turmoil of missing out on the Premiership Division finals.

As one of the most successful clubs in Western Australian rugby history Nedlands have not missed out on premier grade finals in 37 years and to have any chance of securing a spot in the top four they will need to beat Kalamunda by a significant margin and will need scores elsewhere to go in their favour as they hope for Perth Bayswater to scrape a win over Wests Scarborough.

On the other side of the spectrum it’s also a must win for Kalamunda who are on the outskirts of a Championship Division finals spot and will need all the firepower they have to cause an upset over Nedlands.

Wests Scarborough v Perth Bayswater, 3:30pm, Bennett Park, Doubleview

Nothing is certain heading into the semi-finals, but what is certain is that Wests must beat Perth Bayswater if they want to secure their place in the top four as the Belt Up round continues at the ‘Pig Pen’.

Following an impressive string of results, Wests can’t afford to let the allusion of finals block their view as they host the unpredictable Perth Bayswater who will be itching to claim another big scalp in 2020.

Wests have had two bruising encounters in the past two weeks and could be feeling the heat, but with loose forward Isaac Meo offering constant front foot ascendancy, it will take a laborious effort in defence for Perth Bayswater to tame the ‘Boars’.

Off the field Wests will be celebrating their 75th anniversary paving the way for a stirring afternoon of rugby.

Coastal Cavaliers v Joondalup, 3:30pm, Oakmont Reserve, Meadow Springs

Like their Nedlands counterparts, Joondalup defied all odds to beat Cottesloe last weekend boosting their position on the ladder to fifth, however, they remain in a precarious situation, needing a bonus point win against the Cavaliers to even have a sniff of breaking into Premiership Division finals.

Utility back Clay Uyen stepped into the limelight once more last week, putting on a clinic against the ‘Gulls’ and will be a major contender for the PG Hampshire Award this season.

Since their inception into the Fortescue Premier Grade in 2015, Joondalup have never finished in the top four, and while their chances remain slim, anything is possible in the final round of the season.

ARKS v Cottesloe, 3:30pm, Harrisdale Community and Sporting Pavillion, Harrisdale

Two rounds ago it seemed that nothing would stop the rampaging Cottesloe who headed into round 11 undefeated.

One round remaining and Cottesloe are left vulnerable with two losses in a row and the minor premiership slipping from their grasp.

The thought of Associates finishing on top of the ladder should give the ‘Gulls’ all the motivation they need for Saturday as they look to spread their wings and pile on the points in Harrisdale with the hard hitting Ben Grant and Alistair Haining waiting in the ranks to strike.

ARKS will be frothing at the thought of a win to finish off the season but will need all hands on deck as Cottesloe rolls upon the horizon.

ARKS are due a big win in the competition, and with Cottesloe walking wounded the air is ripe for an upset.

Southern Lions v Associates, 3:30pm, Success Regional Sporting Complex, Success

Southern Lions will have nothing to lose against Associates this weekend and will have a great opportunity to measure themselves as they play their final game of the 2020 season.

The Lions exciting brand of rugby hasn’t gone unnoticed and with a young team rising through the ranks, they are shaping up to be a true force in the years to come.

Last week’s ‘Islander Day’ proved to be a massive success for Associates who celebrated their polynesian culture with a groundbreaking 124 point win and a place at the top of the ladder.

A win for Soaks on the weekend will see them win the minor premiership and will also mean they hold on to the Rugby WA Cup until the 2021 season.

Wanneroo v Palmyra, 3:30pm, Kingsway Sports Complex, Madeley

The sheer power of Palmyra has transformed them into a heavyweight of the competition, and they will be looming large against Wanneroo with names such as Jackson Pugh, Ethan Poi and Manihera Eden floating amongst their squad.

Palmyra will be a serious threat come semi-finals, but first they must earn a place against Wanneroo who will also be preparing for their championship division finals.

Wanneroo have attacking options all throughout their backline and as they oppose the intrinsic Palmyra backline, this battle promises to be a treat.

Curtin University v UWA, 3:30pm, Edinburgh Oval, Bentley

The Belt Up round hosts the battle of the universities as Both clubs play for the Dr Norm Uren Perpetual Shield on Saturday, and UWA currently hold the silverware after defeating Curtin in the teams’ first meeting at premier grade level in 2019.\

Dr Norm Uren was a significant contributor to UWA Rugby and eventually started the Curtin Uni Billy Goats.

UWA’s win over Kalamunda means their championship finals spot is guaranteed while Curtin will look to finish their season with a bang.
