The overwhelming success of the recent Girls Club clinics has transformed the Junior Girls competition this year resulting in Girls Club tournament taking place at Wanneroo Rugby Club on Friday August 7.

The clinics were aimed at consolidating all girls playing the game from ages 12-17 in the hope of allocating them to a team before the start of the regular season.

Over of the four clinics yielded 266 girls attended looking to play the game, a number that indicated a real positive step forward for girl’s rugby in those age groups.

The hugely surprising factor to both Super W coaches and RugbyWA development staff is the skill level of the girls who played indicating the strength in talent in the state.

To celebrate the hard work both girls and parents have put in over the last four weeks, RugbyWA are hosting a finals tournament giving participants a chance to show off their skills they’ve learnt over the past four months in a 10s format of the game.

Head of Female Pathway Sian Freeman was particular excited about the final tournament format of Girls Club

“The most surprising thing was the raw talent that came out of these group of girls, we started the clinics with the aim of getting teams together and we’ve discovered some genuine talent in the process.”

“We are looking to get this group closer and closer to the XVs format of the game, so a tens tournament will be a perfect way to celebrate what these girls have achieved over the last month.”

The final Girls club tournament will be hosted at Wanneroo Rugby Club (Kingsway Reserve) on Friday August 7.

Participants are required to show in club colours at 5:30pm ready for games to start at 6:00pm.

RugbyWA would like to thank Girls Club major sponsor Priceline Australia for all they have done to help grow the girl's game in Western Australia.
