Fortescue Live-streamed fixture

Southern Lions vs ARKs, Success Sportsplex. Hammond Road Sth, Success. Kick-off 3:30 pm.

It is the battle of the South this weekend in the Fortescue Premier Grad, as Southern Lions and ARKs rugby club face-off for the right to the throne in the Southern Corridor.

ARKs came away with a massive upset last weekend beating the defending champions Associates, using a very physical style of play they were able to get on top of the men in gold.

Western Force backrower Harrison Orr was a handy addition to the ARKs team last weekend and could prove useful again this week.

Playing Southern Lions, ARKs will look to play the same style of rugby, however with the home side running out such an imposing team a win might not come as easy.

Perth Bayswater vs Curtin University, Pat O’Hara Reserve. Wellington Road, Morley.

(Kick off at 8:10 pm – Friday 31st May)

To make most of the long weekend ahead the Perth Bayswater and Curtin Uni sides have decided to play their premier grade game this Friday night, kicking-off at 8:10pm under the lights.

With the ‘Numbats’ winning their first game of the season last week over the Coastal Cavaliers they are hoping they can carry their momentum into this game and secure a second win against Curtin.

However, with Curtin Uni’s steady improvement over the year this game could prove closer contest than expected.

Number eight Willie Lio has continued to perform impressively for the ‘Goats’ and could well be the factor that leads the maiden team to its first win of the season this Friday night.

Cottesloe vs Associates, Harvey Field. Broome Street, Cottesloe. Kick off at 3:30 pm

One of the most anticipated games of the year falls into round nine as the Battle for Broome street is on again as Associates head down the road to the picturesque Harvey Field to face the ‘Sea Gulls’.

The Cottesloe Premier Grade team has been outstanding this year knocking off a number of big teams in the competition.

Last weekend the ‘Seagulls’ took down top of the table Nedlands down at the Foreshore by nine points, they will be happy to return home this round to face another one of their central club rivals in Associates.

Despite an unexpected loss to ARKs last weekend Soaks will want to write their wrongs and come out firing this round.

Joining the ranks once again will be dynamic Western Force centre Rodney Iona, sliding in at 12 Iona will give the Associates backline another level of skill on the attack.

With bragging rights on the line and such a long rivalry coming to a head, this match could go either way.

UWA vs Palmyra, McGillivray Oval. Brockway Road, Mount Claremont. Kick-off at 3:30 pm

Still leading the charge in the Premier Grade UWA will have another test this weekend as they host Palmyra.

Palmyra have returned to form in the last couple of games beating Perth Bayswater by nine points in round seven followed by a 11-point victory over the Joondalup Brothers.

Future Force lock Jackson Pugh has made his return to the team adding some size to the pally second row, scoring a try last weekend he is defiantly showing that he is capable to be one of the ‘palms’ primary ball carriers.

UWA will be a tough test for Palmyra however if they can stick to their relentless attacking style of play they may be able to catch the league leaders on their toes.

Wanneroo vs Coastal Cavaliers, Kingsway Reserve. Spectator Drive, Madeley. Kick off at 3:30 pm.

It will be a historic day down at Kingsway Reserve this weekend as Wanneroo captain and club legend Andrew King will run out for his 100th Premier Grade game.

The inside centre has been pivotal to Wanneroo’s turnaround over the last couple of years transforming the culture around the club, expect big things from King as he looks to add another win to his tally against the Cavs.

The Coastal Cavaliers however have still been building to a big win this season showing strong physical rugby week after week.

James Petherick still continues to be a nightmare for defenses around the park picking up another try last weekend in their tight loss to Perth Bayswater.

If the Cavs keep their physicality up throughout the game and deny the young Wanneroo players from getting their tails up, there might be an upset on the horizon.

Joondalup Brothers vs Wests Scarborough, HBF Arena. Kennedya Drive, Joondalup. Kick off at 3:30 pm

After a nail-biting victory over Kalamunda last weekend Wests Scarborough will now have to travel even further North to take on the Joondalup Brothers up at HBF Arena.

The return of fullback Jarome Leonard has acted as a life savor for the Wests Scarborough team stepping in to steal victory from the clutches of defeat last weekend.

With a lot of changes to this Wests team lately expect to see some different faces run onto the field this weekend, especially with the Colts competition having a bye round we could see a lot of young talent pull on the maroon jersey this Saturday.

As for Joondalup they also have big players returning to their ranks as ex Perth Spirit representative and longtime Joondalup fullback James Wepener will back out on his home-ground this weekend.

Pairing him with the likes of Sheldon Tarawa and Justin Zeitsman could spell trouble for the Wests boys, as a backline with so much talent can be deadly to opposing defenses.

Kalamunda vs Nedlands, Hartfield Park. Morrison Road, Forrestfield. Kick off at 3:30 pm

For the final game in the Premier Grade for round nine it will be a semi-final rematch between Kalamunda and Nedlands.

Taking place at the same location of Hartfield Park, the home team proved just too good in the match last season showing prowess in their forward pack.

This year however the Neddies boys have shown a high level of improvement and are now one of the leading teams in the competition.

Expect to see a very physical matchup with both teams attempting to out muscle each other upfront.

Tiare Sugden will be a man to watch this weekend playing in the halfback spot for Kalamunda, this young colt has a lot of promise ahead of him getting a fair number of minutes in the Premier Grade Competition.

Expect this match to be very different to the one we saw last year with a lot more young talent on offer this time around.
