Rugby WA is pleased to share key appointments made within the organisation in April.

Sarah du Plessis has joined the team as RugbyWA’s General Manager – Community and Geoff Burgess has taken over the role of Manager Finance.

Sarah joins RugbyWA from Football West, where she held the position of Community Football Manager and, most recently, Manager – Female Football, where she oversaw the Women’s World Cup Legacy Programs in Western Australia.

“I am looking forward to collaborating closely with our grassroots clubs and cultivating dynamic environments and competitions, where rugby can flourish at all levels.”

In this position, Sarah hopes to grow the game throughout the state, “... by delivering competitions that engage our communities from Juniors, women and girls to Golden Oldies, providing quality and robust competitions in all forms of our game, throughout Western Australia.”

“This involves not only supporting clubs in increasing participation rates but also ensuring that we have successful, well governed and sustainable competitions throughout community rugby,” Sarah said.

“By providing support and resources to our grassroots clubs, we can create pathways for players of all ages and abilities to develop their skills and passion for the sport. Together, we can build a rugby community in West Australia that is strong, vibrant, and inclusive.”

Sarah has taken over the role from Jason Marrable, who will now be serving as the Regional Manager – Southwest out of Bunbury.

Geoff joins RugbyWA with a plethora of experience in senior finance and administration roles across a range of industries, including retail, construction and real estate. His most recent position was as Executive Manager Finance with REIWA. Geoff will be taking on the role of Manager Finance for RugbyWA.

“I am looking forward to applying my professional skills in conjunction with the team at RugbyWA, to help assist in growing the game, and realise the flow-on benefits that the sport’s development will have for all in our community.”

Jeromy Jones will also be joining the RugbyWA team as Integrity Coordinator.

RugbyWA would also like to share the departure of Senior Competitions Coordinator, Michael Lordan. Michael will be taking on a new role with the Western Force, as Talent Identification Coordinator.

“I would like to say thank you to all the clubs across all our competitions for allowing me to get to know you. It has been amazing to learn more about the great people involved at every level of the club,” Michael said.

“Each one of you, no matter what your role, contributes to the growth of your club. It is this growth that is critical to developing the game in this great state. I have full confidence that through the direction, ambition, and values of Rugby WA that this growth will be nurtured and continued to develop for years to come.”
