RugbyWA is pleased to announce that Kingsway Sporting Complex in partnership with the City of Wanneroo, has been selected to host the 2022 Fortescue Grand-final – Festival of Rugby on Saturday, September 10.
Wanneroo was chosen against a selection criterion that included the club and venues ability to host a holistic positive experience for both players and spectators. Additionally, in the interest of holding a ‘Festival of Rugby’, Grand-finals from under 12’s will be played on the same day at the same location.
This has included recommendations made by RugbyWA management, consultation and engagement with the Junior Executive and President of RugbyWA to decide the venue.
During the process of selecting the venue, RugbyWA management took every reasonable step to make the call based on current information presented.
As part of the winning bid, the Wanneroo Rugby Club in partnership with the City of Wanneroo will turn Kingsway oval and the sporting complex into a festival of Rugby to further add to the exciting and fun Grand Final experience.
RugbyWA Chief Executive Officer, Nathan Charles said he is pleased with the choice.
“It was never an easy choice to make but we believe after reviewing the submissions, consulting with relevant stakeholders and the extensive internal meetings, that we have made the right choice,” Charles said.
“Naturally, there will be some clubs who will be upset it wasn’t their home ground, but we’ve taken into consideration specific criteria and a holistic view incorporating all rugby levels into one location celebrating Rugby,”
“At the end of the day, we want to see as many people get to the game or in and around the precinct, cheering on their team and having the best game day experience while watching some of the best players in the competition.”
