The RugbyWA U19s team will kick-off the final round of the 2019 URC competition with their last match set to take on the Melbourne Rising.
RugbyWA narrowly fell to reigning champions Brisbane City in their last hit out going down 36-29, Brisbane City secured their place in the URC final for the second straight year,
The Queensland outfit will look to continue their unbeaten run in the Final against Sydney on Saturday, having never lost a match in the two-year history of the tournament.
In a battle for country rugby dominance, Queensland Country will take on NSW Country Eagles in the bronze medal match while competition hosts, the Brumbies are set to do battle with Barbarians in the fifth-place playoff.
The Melbourne Rebels U19s and RugbyWA U19s will kick off proceedings on a packed schedule of Finals day action with an early start of 9.30am AEDT, which correlates to a 6:30am start AWST.
Some key players to watch out for in black and gold will include Alex Masibaka, flying in from New Zealand after a historic Australian Schools and U18s win Masibaka has hit the ground running in the URC competition scoring a double in WA’s last match against Brisbane.
Reece Anapu, Grason Makara and Jackson Pugh have all been solid contributors to the team all three have taken a leadership roll within the squad, with such dominant play displayed by these three senior players a Western Force NRC call up could be looming in the near future.
Junior Wallabies Head Coach, Jason Gilmore said: “We’re anticipating some highly competitive rugby to be played on the last day, with some great match ups.
“It is expected of all the teams that they will bring out their best performances in these Finals as we kick off our preparation for what lies ahead in 2020 at the national level.
“This tournament has allowed us to see players continue their good club form into a national tournament, giving them the best possible opportunity to put their hand up for State Academy and Junior Wallabies selection later in the year.”
