Associates’ stalwart Hugh Norcross will join an elite list of both ‘Soaks’ and WA Rugby players on Saturday as he earns his 150th premier grade cap against Joondalup at Allen Park.

Joining the club in 1991 as a youngster, Norcross has established himself as a one of the memorable characters down at Allen Park.

Norcross made his first-grade debut in 2003 and has since being part of two premier grade premiership’s in 2012 and 2018.

Along with his fishing, Soaks holds a special place in the heart of Hugh Norcross who found it hard to remember his first game of premier grade.

Humble as always Norcross held his cards close to his chest when asked about his upcoming milestone.

“I’m very much looking forward to it, for me it will be the same as any other game, I can hardly remember my first game, seems like a lifetime ago, but I can remember my first try,” Norcross said.

“Lack of training has been a secret ingredient for keeping me in the Premier grade, all those missed pre-seasons have payed dividends.”

“My favourite moment at the club would have to be the three-peat premiership in 2012, when first grade, reserve grade and colts all won premierships, that was a special day.”

“Club culture is really good, we have a decent atmosphere erupting down at the club as always, nothing’s changed there."

Discussing what inspired him to play the game, Norcross travelled back to his roots honouring his father and brothers who have all played down at the club.

Norcross also payed tribute to some Soaks legends such as Anthony Brain, Damian Elton, Dirk Gleghorn and Adam New who have acted as role models for him in years gone by.

Honourable mentions must also be given to Michael Hardwick and James Rogerson who will both play their 200th club game for Associates on the weekend.

Norcross will run out for his 150th Premier Grade game this weekend at Allen Park when Associates face Joondalup, kicking off at 3:30pm.
