RugbyWA and VenuesWest have finished construction of a multipurpose Women’s changeroom at RugbyWA HQ located at 203 Underwood Ave, Floreat.

The change room is designed to provide all female athletes a comfortable and private location to get changed prior to trainings and gym sessions all while having full access to the recovery facilities that the precinct provides.

The changeroom is a great step in the right direction for the RugbyWA HQ building and with the emergence of the RugbyWA Women’s team as well as the High-Performance Future Force Ladies Pathway the new changeroom will be an invaluable asset to RugbyWA and other sporting organizations who make use of the Centre.

RugbyWA Women’s Stalwart and Wallaroo Rebecca Clough was highly impressed with the opening of new rooms and expressed her excitement for the direction of Women’s Rugby in the state.

“This is a huge step for Women’s rugby in WA, I never thought this day would come and now seeing an area designed just for us is awesome and things are just growing so fast around the women’s game and it’s unbelievable.”

“We are definitely now starting to catch up to the other sporting codes and teams across the state and country especially with great facilities like this and now with the addition with the new changerooms everything is just moving forward in leaps and bounds.”

“We no longer now have to use the other bathrooms away from the gym or share rooms with the other male athletes that are here, with the top-class recovery facilities right next door we will definitely make use of the rooms come Super W season.”

Both VenuesWest and The Sport Aus program were instrumental in the completion in the change rooms providing much needed resources to finalize the project.

RugbyWA Chairperson John Edwards was ecstatic that the female changerooms have finally been installed and believes that the investment is another step in the right direction for an already strong Women’s rugby program.

“Women’s Rugby has been strong in the state for a long time and we are great supporters of women in rugby both in the 15s and 7s format so its about time the athletes have a facility like this and it’s a great day for our females athletes who are going to be a lot happier raising the value of the rugby centre here at RugbyWA HQ.”

“The Board and RugbyWA acknowledge that this had to happen for a long time and our female athletes definitely appreciate that we made the step, and this is definitely not an insignificant investment for us.

“Hopefully they will use the space as much as they can, we wish we could have found a bit more room for them, but we did the best we could with the space we had so I’m thinking that they will be more encouraged to use the facility and the gym because at the end of the day everybody needs a changeroom.”

“Both VenuesWest and Sports Australia were extremely helpful in this process, they recognized the need for these changerooms as soon as we put the proposal forward and once we got into the process they supported it from day one so we thank them for that.”

The Women’s changerooms were officially opened on October 16 by RugbyWA Chairperson John Edwards, President Francis Williams and CEO Bob Hunter as well as Board Member Gillian Forde and RugbyWA Women’s representative Rebecca Clough.
