In their second game of the 2019 Super W season the RugbyWA Women rise up to defeat an ever improving Melbourne Rebels squad by 28 points.
Prop Brooke Mason starred in the encounter scoring a double to help WA secure a final score of 38-10.
The RugbyWA Women got on the front foot early in the match scoring the first try only nine minutes after kick-off with Fullback Mhicca Carter showing her speed to touch down in the corner.
The Rebels showed vast improvement from their first two games of the season putting immediate pressure on RugbyWA earning themselves a penalty to cut back into the lead, Carmen Landkauf delivering the blow with the boot.
Good phase play saw the WA Women searching for their second try of the match as quick hands from young scrumhalf Crystal Walters gave winger Zakiya Kareopa the space to run in for another five points.
Ariana Hira-Herangi showed off her impressive skills with ball in hand making meters throughout the match as she repelled the Rebels defence to score her own try just 25 minutes in.
The RugbyWA Women dominated up until half time with Mhicca Carter scoring what was arguably the try of the match as she catches a crafty chip and chase to score under the posts.
With kicker Tui Cope out of the squad for the weekend, Wallaroo Trilleen Pomare stepped up and took the kicking duties nailing all three of her conversions to build of RugbyWA's score.
To end the half it was incredible work rate that got WA over the line crashing over to score her first try of the season from a dominant pick and drive attempt.
The Rebels came out firing in the second dominating at scrum-time to put real pressure on the WA defense, in a back and fourth hit-out the two sides traded possession in the middle of the field for more than 30 minutes with no side gaining any real advantage.
Finally the Rebels got in position to strike as Hooker Sharlene Fagalilo snuck through the defense to score Melbourne's first try of the competition marking a milestone for the team.
The Rebels score lit a fire under RugbyWA as they hit back almost immediately with Mason charging through to score her second try off a successful WA line-out.
Both sides played with incredible heart to finishing the game with a high level of intensity.
RugbyWA captain Tara Reed was proud of her side's first victory after two gruelling road trips to kick off the year.
"It is a really good feeling. They made it tough for us but it was good to get the win," she said.
"The travel has taken a toll especially this quick turnaround, it'll be good to get back to get back in front of our home crowd next week."
RugbyWA play their first home game of the competition this weekend on Sunday the 17th at Curtin University kicking off at 3:30 pm.
